My trip to the World Economic Forum 2024 #WEF2024 in Davos was filled with insight and hope, and informed by a diverse set of perspectives. I had an amazing opportunity to represent #hp and engage in dialog with our customers, media, influencers, and government leaders. We have so much to do for humanity, and so, much more we will do. Here are some of my observations from this week: 1. AI is everywhere – in automation, in optimization, in R&D acceleration – and in our legitimate fears and our paranoia. For me, the future is (always) bright, and the responsibility rests on our shoulders to establish trust and equity with responsible #ai. AI is by humans for humans and so long as humans remain the demand function for AI output, we will be alright over the long term. But we must manage the short-term diligently. 2. Gender inequality is still a thing – even in 2024, which is both unacceptable and embarrassing because the numbers are trending in the wrong direction. We must do much more to promote, elevate and accelerate women. Allyship from men is key. I am committed. I urge all of you to do the same, let’s walk the talk – and walk a whole lot faster. 3. Humanity lives. The voices of non-profits and small business CEOs / entrepreneurs were loud, as were the voices of large corporations and government leaders. At #hp, we remain committed to our cause of being the voice of good for humanity and continuing to live the ideals of the #HPWay. In my private dinners, breakfasts, and roundtables with #cnbc, #wsj and others, we made room for diverse voices – even if we didn’t agree, we listened - and that’s important. 4. Global elections, circularity, and sustainability are front and center in 2024. Yet as Ajay Banga, President at #worldbank shared - “Forecast is not destiny” and that “Journeys are fueled by hope but realized by deeds”. We shall overcome, so let’s get at it. 5. Not bringing boots to Davos is an intellectual miscalculation, don’t pull a Ganesha on this one. The weather was fortunately lenient but be better about the weather. Still…with all the black ice and sleet, not wiping out all week counts as an achievement. What a week in Palo Alto! I attended our very first #HPImagine - and witnessed the big reveal of some of our groundbreaking products to the media. A huge shout-out to Alex Cho, Tuan Tran & Dave Shull - and in particular Stella Low and Vikrant Batra for the incredible innovation showcase. Our CEO, Enrique Lores, said it best: “HP technology is playing an increasingly important role in the lives of our customers, and we continue to harness the power of our innovation to create amazing new experiences.” Here's one of of several examples of how we are building a new future with our customers at Wrexham FC. This past week, I had the opportunity to tour our Customer Welcome Center in Palo Alto, CA. It was truly eye opening to witness first-hand the incredible breadth of the HP portfolio. From the next-gen gaming experience with our Omen platform, our Z workstation platform (curved audio visual experience, complete with noise cancellation + audio fencing), digital print (check out the iconic brands - I had no idea!), 3D print with a real mission (single mold no assembly required, custom orthotics), etc. And above all else, staying true to our values on sustainability. It was like walking into a (sugar-free) candy store! Thank you Claudia Molins Ustáriz for such a wonderful experience at our CWC, for sharing such insightful perspectives, and for entertaining my numerous questions. I learned so much from you! A few years ago, it dawned on me that parenting was arguably one of the biggest leadership growth opportunities for executives. While I believed it to be true, I never really processed why. Yet the anecdotal evidence seemed to prove it time and again. This sheet of paper was stashed away in my 8-year old’s backpack. As I contemplated talking to her about it, I figured I would explain to her about hard days being the best teaching moments of our lives, etc. - all the stuff we’ve learned through our own life adventures. And that’s precisely the point isn’t it? Data shows retention from reading at 10%, from listening at 20%, but from teaching at 90%. If only we spent more time teaching others what we knew, we’d all be better humans - remembering to embrace our hardest days at work as teaching moments! So leaders, teach away - at work and at home. Because what better way to learn and to grow, if not by teaching the next generation of leaders, including the ones who have all the authority over you! #leadership #growth
