The Golden Pass LNG export facility in Sabine Pass, Texas, stands as a pivotal development for U.S. energy infrastructure and economic stability. This project enhances domestic gas production and underlines the critical importance of advanced engineering and precise surveying—areas where Louisiana LiDAR Advanced Surveying & Engineering shines. As we increase LNG exports, the Golden Pass project not only propels economic growth and supports energy security but also highlights the essential role of high-precision technology in major infrastructure projects. The success of such initiatives is vital for a robust and sustainable energy future in the United States. At Louisiana LiDAR, we are proud to contribute to and support projects that secure and advance our national energy capabilities. #GoldenPassLNG #LiDAREngineering #EnergySecurity #SustainableEnergy

Among hazards occurring in offshore submarine environments, landslides pose a significant risk to offshore infrastructure attached to the seafloor. Given the importance of offshore energy production, it's necessary to anticipate where future landslide events are likely to occur to support planning and development projects. A recent publication by a research team at #NETL addresses this need by performing landslide susceptibility mapping. https://lnkd.in/etr3t-d7

TWO- FOR- ONE · A large ship is tethered at a wharf · Enormous elastic energy is generated in its moorings · This is an energy transfer of kinetic motion in the sea, to a floating object · Of the six kinetic motions of the sea, heave, surge and sway are notable · But the ultimate kinetic/elastic energy transfer is typically dissipated as heat · However, in principle, elastic energy in moorings can be harvested for electricity · Wind turbines are mainly positioned in shallow water · There, they are typically built as a monopole, pile-driven into the seafloor · In deep water, the wind is much more intense · But the seafloor is too deep for monopole construction · So a floating construction is adopted with catenary tethering to the seafloor · Here is a proposition: · A wind turbine is floated in shallow water · Stability is provided by mooring to pile-driven poles (as a ship is moored to a wharf) · Elastic energy in the mooring is harvested from kinetic energy in the waves · The turbine continues to harvest energy from the wind · Two-for-one! Last call for Celtic Sea bidders! Following a Bidders Day in Swansea last month, the formal leasing process is set to begin for the Celtic Sea Project Development Areas. For participating companies, now is the perfect time to leverage legacy data, gain deeper understanding of the seabed and subsurface, and accelerate your offshore wind project. GeoProvider is ready! We have carried out unique high-resolution re-imaging of legacy seismic data. These data, combined with bathymetry, geological, and seabed sampling expose geohazards, support early ground model preparation, effective survey planning and inform foundation or anchor design. Ready to make real progress on your project? Contact Geoprovider to discuss: 👉Building your Celtic Sea ground model 👉Efficient geophysical and geotechnical surveys 👉Site specific anchor and foundation design [email protected] #offshorewind #renewableenergy #windpower #renewables #windturbine #windturbines #greenenergy #windenergy #renewable #windindustry #onshorewind #cleantech #globalwind

#JustPublished Check out our latest paper in Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics journal, where approximating expressions for estimating liquefaction-induced OWT settlement are proposed. The development of the analytical framework is based on nonlinear dynamic FE effective stress analyses, and an efficient ML- and MLSM-aided SSI analysis. The predictive models account for motion intensity measures including the shaking intensity rate (SIR), Arias Intensity and spectral acceleration at a period equal to 1 s as well as the contact pressure as state parameter caused by the OWT’s mass.
I am pleased to share with you our recent publication: “A simplified procedure for the prediction of liquefaction-induced settlement of offshore wind turbines supported by suction caisson foundation based on effective stress analyses and an ML-based group method of data handling” in Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics Journal. (Published as Open Access) I had the honor of working with Dr. Amin Barari and receive his insightful guidance and kind support. In this paper, the seismic behavior of caisson-supported offshore wind turbines on saturated sand was investigated. Moreover, an efficient machine learning (ML) aided soil-structure interaction (SSI) analysis for a wide range of scenarios was presented. As an Open Access paper, the journal presented following link which they are welcome to read or download. https://lnkd.in/eScrj3Y7 #offshorewindturbine #suctioncaissonfoundation #seismicdesign #offshorewindenergy #machinelearnig #Aalborguniversity #rmituniversity

Monopile installation failed! 😳 Monopile foundation for offshore wind generators (VTG) Soft seabed substrate, the monopile usually needs to be driven in using a hydraulic hammer. In this cae it made it’s own way down without any help! If it has gone too deep they won’t be able to put the yellow transition piece TP, on top. That’s the bit that the Wind Turbine Generator WTG is mounted on. Also might not be able to retrieve it! Could be an expensive failure... Really good talk on Renewable Energy by Dr Victor Taboada
On April 19, SEG Wavelets had the honor of hosting Dr. Victor Taboada, Marine Geotechnical Manager at Fugro! His talk, “An Outlook on Renewable Energy: Foundations, Installation, and Future Trends for Offshore Wind in the US,” was widely informative, and Dr.Taboada was welcoming to all questions that started great discussions amongst the students. Thank you to everyone who attended, Dr. Taboada, and Qwenada Moore for making this talk a success! #seg #segwavelets #geophysics #fugro #studentchapter #uh #universityofhouston
