Hate posting quotes but this one resonated with me. I think it’s really simple that if you’re a young athlete you need minimum distraction or you simply won’t make it. But this is also a challenge for all parents on how we introduce our children to smartphones and social media yet want them to be focused on more important things in life like their education, friends, work and hobbies. I have always believed and still do that we have to get our children good at social media as it’s not going away and it’s how we consume news and content, communicate and tell our stories. However the benefits of social media are tipping in the wrong direction in the last few years and usage for young people can be a risk to their progression and wellbeing. I’ve not got the answer but it’s something that is currently on my mind a bit. What do you think? ❤️

This weekend saw us celebrate our 3rd Graduation at University Academy 92 (UA92). Our Graduations are honestly some of the most special days to me, to be able to see some of our students come to the end of their time with us, knowing how hard they worked to get to this point. Students are facing many challenges in the last few years and they’ve had to be resilient and not only learn their skills but to have the know how of navigating those years and I couldn’t be prouder to see all those students this weekend having that moment to celebrate and say “we did it” together. Well done everyone and good luck for your future ❤️

What Gareth has done in these last 8 years is remarkable. Not just on the pitch with back to back finals but also what he’s achieved off the pitch. It’s so difficult to manage the politics that come with the England job, from the media to the fans and to the players, he’s removed a lot of barriers that existed. There was a rift between the players and the media and he helped to take that away, there used to be club vs country rivalries within squads and that’s gone, the fans and the team have been brought back together, these aren’t easy things to navigate but he’s done them. He’s had the right qualities as a leader. He’s been calm, resilient and made difficult and sometimes brutal decisions at times that have been needed. We didn’t quite make it over the line in tournaments, we all know that, but I’ve always believed how we should judge his time is on what we thought on day one, and if we’d have said that we would go on to do what we’ve done, people would have said it’s insanity. He’s given England fans an amazing period. We didn’t win a trophy, but that’s nothing to be ashamed of because you’re up against other countries with great players and great ambition. He’s created one of the most successful periods in English football history and England as a nation and our players now have a lot more respect around Europe and the world. Thank you Gareth, you did a great job 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

So 28 years ago this picture was taken after Gareth missed a penalty v Germany in Euro 96. What a journey. Today he stands on the brink of greatness. I’ve said this repeatedly that no English man knows more about tournament football than Gareth. His know how and composure in this tournament has been incredible. We’ve all questioned the style and the selections but he’s navigated his way to the final and proved us all wrong. In life you hope great things happen to great people. I hope we win tonight for the immeasurable impact it will have on our country but also for Gareth who deserves it 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿❤️ Join us live on ITV at 6:30pm ⚽️
