Did you know that you can access an age-positive image library completely free? Any business or entity that wants to depict older people can now do so in a way that reflects how older people actually live today, as opposed to how they might have lived in times gone by. The not for profit organisation Age Without Limits has created the first free library showing positive and realistic images of the over 50s, to help challenge stereotypes of older people. CJ Hendry (the incredible Aussie artist) just threw an art exhibition in the middle of the desert in Nevada. To launch her new hyperrealist drawings and resin pieces titled 'Public Pool', her team built a pop-up pool in the middle of the desert. The comment sections have been BLOWING UP (pun absolutely intended) with a solid mix of fury and appreciation. My thoughts: *Seeing artists exhibit in a similar way to how products would be launched with a solid PR campaign is showing the leap many are making from 'artist' to 'brand'. That comes with its own controversy in the art world but personally, I think it's exciting and shows the power of building a brand world you can invite people into be part of, not just observe. *Process sharing is a 10/10! Her followers were able to track her whole exhibition plan from start to finish, she showed the fuck ups when it came to typos on printed merch and every consideration along the way. Seeing the messy BTS vs just a shiny outcome makes followers feel like family, it's community building 101. *The attention to detail makes me drool, honestly. Invites sent as towels and mini pool replicas, the flower shaped plates on the table, the poolside umbrellas and the floaties all exact replicas of her resin art pieces. She created the kind of merch people will actually use because it's high quality and not heavily-branded. *The elephant in the room - sustainability...a blow up pool of plastics floaties in the desert? This is where the anger in the comments is coming from. After some digging, there actually was a fair bit of messaging about the water being recycled back to farmers + information on how the inflatables would be recycled to be made into children's chairs. It's obvious there has been a lot of consideration but the delivery of the messaging could have been handled a better even by dropping one or two lines into the main reels vs being hidden in IG stories (check Public Pool 2.0 stories if you want to deep dive too). Thoughts on the exhibition? I'm absolutely in LOVE - this is the kind of feeling-focused work I'm passionate about.
