Let’s discuss the fascinating discovery of stainless steel. This remarkable material enables the production of our expertly crafted tanks, and it deserves recognition. Harry Brearley, a British metallurgist, is acknowledged for the discovery in 1913. At Brown-Firth Laboratories, his research focused on creating a material resistant to erosion. The pivotal observation was that incorporating chromium into steel significantly enhanced its resistance to rust and corrosion. Getting into the details, Brearley discovered that the chromium formed a protective oxide layer on the steel’s surface, serving as a shield against oxidation and corrosion. Initially, the material was marketed as “rustles steel” and caught the attention of cutlery and surgical instrument manufacturers. As time when on and metallurgy advanced, various grades of stainless steel were developed. The composition and properties of the material were customized for different industries, which led to the success of stainless steel. Today, the material is utilized across numerous industries. 1. Process comparison Hot dip galvanizing is an economical anti-corrosion option. It is usually used for pre manufacturing objects that have not yet been galvanized, and hot-dip galvanizing is the final step. Meanwhile, as the name suggests, pre galvanizing is carried out in the first stage of production. 2. Coating comparison a. Coating thickness Both methods can make the thickness of the coating uniform. However, hot-dip galvanizing produces a thicker protective layer than pre galvanizing. The minimum average thickness of hot-dip galvanized steel is 200-550g/㎡, and it is used for pre galvanized products between 40 and 100 grams/㎡. b. Coating adhesion The first step in these hot-dip galvanizing processes for manufacturing galvanized steel is to clean the surface, therefore, the bonding between the steel and the protective coating is metallurgical and strong. 3. Price comparison Because pre galvanized steel pipes are directly welded, hot-dip galvanized steel pipes need to be processed on the basis of bare pipes. Therefore, the processing cost is much higher than that of pre galvanized steel pipes. 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 is a heat treatment process that involves a controlled heating and cooling cycle that transforms the steel's microstructure, resulting in improved mechanical properties and performance. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀: 1. 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜: The steel is heated to a specific temperature range, typically between 850°C and 950°C, where steel fully transforms into an austenite phase, a face-centered cubic (FCC) crystal structure. 2. 𝙎𝙤𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜: Once the desired temperature is reached, the steel is held at that temperature for a specific period, known as the soaking time. During this stage, the austenite grains grow and become uniform in size throughout the steel's cross-section. 3. 𝘼𝙞𝙧 𝘾𝙤𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜: After the soaking period, the steel is removed from the furnace and allowed to cool in still air at room temperature. The austenite grains transform into a fine and evenly distributed mixture of ferrite and pearlite grains. The slower cooling rate associated with normalizing facilitates this uniform transformation. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀: 1.
