Applying to #Bschool in Round 3? Round 3 (#R3) is usually the last chance to enter an #MBA program that is starting this year - in the current case, the programs that start in Fall of 2024, which is known as the Class of 2026 (because that is when you graduate). So many factors could lead you to R3 - personal circumstances, work obligations, rejections from R1/2, a tortuous journey with #GMAT or #GRE, or maybe you just didn't get around to it yet. Here you are and I ain't judging... BUT, you're freaking out because you have heard that R3 is "impossible," "only superstars" get in, the class is nearly "filled up" - it's too competitive and a "waste of time." While there is some truth to these beliefs, like most things in MBA #admissions, the answer to whether you should apply in R3 or not is not that simple. As I always say "Round 3 exists for a reason" - classes are not full yet & so there are still chances to get in. BUT applying in R3, or not, depends on lots of factors: ✅ is your GMAT, GRE, or #EA done & you have a competitive score? if not. Wait until R1. ✅ are you aiming for an #M7? the elite top 7 have already built pretty formidable classes by R3, so your odds may be higher in slightly lower-ranked schools. (#HBS doesn't even offer a third round!) ✅ are you a WOW (walk-on-water) candidate with amazing achievements & stellar stats? If so, yea, go for it - #adcom will want to meet you! ✅ are you unique in terms of career, #diversity or other factors? The most common applicants include consultants & bankers, often male, or come from over-represented geographies. If this is you, R3 will be tough. BUT if you come from a non-traditional industry, an underrepresented population, are female, run a big family company, are a successful entrepreneurs - your odds are stronger. ✅ are you from a country where it might take a long time to get a visa? R3 is a no. ✅ are you aiming for an EU school? R3 or even R4 is fine! ✅ are you ready to work really hard the next few weeks (deadlines are in late March/early April? #essays, LORs, videos... there is a LOT of work to do. ✅ are you okay with the fact that you may get dinged & have to reapply in R1 for Class of 2027? and finally, do you really and truly want to do this? If your heart ❤️ soul is saying that you need to apply now, well, then you probably do. Just do so knowing the odds and ready to face them. And above all, believe in yourself. Online Academies/Courses: Platforms like Coursera, Udacity, and Khan Academy provide accessible learning opportunities in various disciplines, including computer science, business, and more. Boot Camps: Intensive training programs, particularly popular in tech for coding and software development, focus on job-ready skills in a short period. In-Work Training: Companies often provide training programmes to employees, aimed at enhancing their skills and knowledge while working. This can include on-the-job training, where employees learn by doing tasks under supervision, or more structured courses to improve specific skills. Instead of adhering to the myth of needing a college degree, try embracing skills-based learning and practical experience. Branson left school at the age of 16 and never pursued a college or university degree. He has since built a global business empire. Alan Sugar - Founder of Amstrad. Why Should We Prefer a Degree Over a Certificate?   A friend recently asked me, "Why should we prefer a degree over a certificate?" Here’s my perspective: Opting for a degree is crucial. A degree is not just an educational credential; it’s a comprehensive experience that expands your vision, sharpens your intellect, and equips you with lifelong skills. It fosters flexibility, critical thinking, and resilience, laying a strong foundation for your future endeavours. Think of it this way: imagine buying a car on a long-term installment plan and using it for Uber to earn money and pay off the installments. By the time the installments are complete, the car’s condition has significantly deteriorated. Similarly, compromising on your first degree might offer short-term gains, but it could lead to long-term drawbacks. In my view, investing in a degree is like investing in a robust, enduring infrastructure for your career and personal growth. It opens doors to diverse opportunities and provides the tools necessary to navigate the complexities of life and work. 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐈 𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐲 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦. What’s it like hanging off a cliff by a thin rope? Would you let go or strive to climb up? That’s exactly how I felt entering my final year of university with a CGPA of 4.49, on the verge of achieving my goal of graduating with a First Class degree. Right from my first year at Covenant University, I set a high bar for myself. First year started great, but the second year brought chaos, and my GPA wavered. By my final year, with a CGPA of 4.49, some people thought I was already practically there, but to me, it was a precarious situation. To me, that 4.49 was a really disappointing second class upper, and I wasn’t ready to settle. My dad (God rest his soul) was one of my major driving forces while I was in university, and I wanted to make him proud. 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐧’𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐈’𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐂𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝟒.𝟓𝟖 𝐆𝐏𝐀! 🎓✨ Some tips I would give to those who are still on this path to achieve theirs is to first of all, build a strong network. A popular saying goes "𝘪𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘰 𝘧𝘢𝘴𝘵, 𝘨𝘰 𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘦. 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘰 𝘧𝘢𝘳, 𝘨𝘰 𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳." This applies here really well, and I can testify that I owe many thanks to the people I had around me that helped me achieve this feat. Another one I would say is to apply concentrated pressure to the right places to hit your goal. Early in my education, I was shooting at every target, it wasn't until later on I realized that the best results came when my effort was concentrated on the areas that mattered. Honestly speaking, finding the areas that matter is a task on its own, but having people around you makes it easier. Hello Everyone, I am writing to let you know how special it was for me to have YOU on my journey for my master’s degree. But, let me tell you a prelude first. I was never a sincere student throughout most of my academics. In 2009, when I graduated with a bachelor’s degree, I entered the job market. Soon after that, I started realizing that I was not enjoying life much, and eventually, I felt that I should do more. Since then, I have been planning to pursue higher education – an MBA. A country (India) of youth is chasing behind good B-schools for their MBA, and I took part in that race and failed brutally. I was so immersed in it that I rejected all other opportunities for higher education (a couple of my friends went to Germany for an MS). There was one big reason, however. As I never studied well during my undergraduate studies, I didn’t have the confidence to pursue higher education in that domain further. Meanwhile, my brother and a couple of friends continued their Ph.D. studies. I used to have long discussions with one of them and started finding my interest in technical things again. YouTube videos helped me a lot in gaining my confidence. Before coming here, one of my friends taught me the basics of brushing up on long, rusty things. After coming here to America, a flow of the same sort helped me take the lift. The first semester was challenging. The second semester was even tougher. With these initial glitches, I fell into place and kept moving ahead after a decade of academic gap. But there is an associated risk, something unforeseen, something uncanny, a fear of insecurity. In the USA, I have no one – not a family member, not a friend. So, the fear of insecurity could have been quite impactful. But I was wrong. May it be my luck or destiny, someone was always just a phone call away. Today, at my graduation, I felt comfortable having all these people on this journey. I am not naming anyone specifically; someone is always available for me in need – some old friends, some new ones who came to my life to help me move ahead. I always wanted to experience higher education in a foreign country. But I never imagined I could make it happen in my life. Today, with God’s grace (in the name of some good people, called friends and families), I am done with my MS degree. THANK YOU ALL!

Before you start wondering, "where is that feeling that I thought I would feel after graduating?" Think about it like this, you were successful before you even got the degree, the degree does not confirm your success, you do. The late nights filled with homework and studying, attending clubs to gauge your interests, and putting your all into getting opportunities, are all signs that you have already been successful. The degree is the cherry on top that now signals to others that you are qualified and are knowledgeable about a subject. One month ago, I graduated. QUESTIONS QUESTIONS QUESTIONS ⁉️ All the people around me had questions! ▪️Why JMI? ▪️Why B.B.A? ▪️Why not Economics or b.com or 100 other things? The "WHY" questions made me blur. To start, this journey was filled with hard work, chaos, and utmost resilience to overcome every obstacle as smoothly as possible. I remember when I first told my mom and my peers that I had selected JMI as my preference for college out of the others. Not going to lie, they were a little shocked and had a lot of questions. I was confused too, but considering the benefits I would gain from joining this institution and the amount of money I would save by not giving lakhs of rupees for a private college, I went for it and I have NO REGRETS. Answering those questions - I have grown and molded myself into a confident human being, which wouldn't have been possible without this college and my peers. Reflecting on the degree I chose at the time—it was a simple degree compared to what others my age were pursuing—but it gave me the time to invest in work and courses outside of my degree, which helped me a lot both financially and professionally. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey, who has kept me sane, seen me cry, and listened to my endless rants about everything related to college. You guys are amazing.
