Japan’s #FPSO operator #MODEC has unveiled its new, mid-term business plan, covering the period from 2024 to 2026, which spotlights the Japanese player’s intention to further strengthen the profitability of its core FPSO business, strategically invest funds to decarbonize its FPSO units, develop new opportunities, and bolster its business foundation, including its human capital. The new chief executive has been appointed, and has outlined its vision to become the world’s best floating production, storage and offloading vessel company. Hirohiko Miyata , 62, currently Modec’s director and executive vice president, will be appointed representative director, president and chief executive on 27 March, replacing Takeshi Kanamori, who will takeover as chairman. In Modec’s new vision, outlined on Wednesday, the company aims to become by 2034 the “world’s best FPSO builder and operator, achieving the smallest carbon footprint alongside safety and high uptime”. #SBMOffshore is currently the world's largest FPSO company, with Modec in second place based on the number of owned FPSOs. The company currently owns and operates 15 large FPSOs and three floating storage vessels. It has just delivered the Sangomar FPSO, and is building three more large floaters Raia and Bacalhau for #Brazil, and Uara for #Guyana. The South American FPSO market is on the rise alongside the global FPSO market, which is estimated to reach $20 billion in 2027, based on a report by The Insight Partners. MODEC has been busy with new FPSO deliveries. One of the recent ones was confirmed in August 2023.

Another Monster Unit heading for Brasil 🇧🇷 Noble Corporation,s Faye Kozack left Las Palmas and is on its way to Samba Land. The $500 million contract with Brasil's Petrobras for the ultra-deepwater drillship will be drilling at the BM-S-11 and Tupi fields offshore Brazil, has a firm duration of 2.5 years, with expected start-up in Q4 2023. The contract value of about $500 million includes a mobilization fee and additional services provided. Noble previously stated “We are delighted to have secured this contract which will see a Noble drillship reenter Brazilian waters and marks our first collaboration with Petrobras in many years. Brazil is one of the most exciting deepwater markets in the world right now, not least due to Petrobras’ ambitious plans to further develop Brazilian hydrocarbon supply. 🇧🇷 It's #TravelTuesday here at Oilfield Technology, and this week we are heading to Brazil! 💡 Valaris Limited has announced that it has been awarded a multi-year contract with Equinor Energy do Brasil Ltda., a subsidiary of Equinor, for drillship VALARIS DS-17. 🔍 The contract relates to work offshore Brazil on Project Raia. Equinor’s project partners are Repsol Sinpoec Brazil (35%) and Petrobras (30%). The estimated total contract value is approximately US$498 million, inclusive of MPD, additional services and fees for mobilisation and minor rig upgrades. The contract has an estimated total duration of 852 days. 💬 President and Chief Executive Officer Anton Dibowitz said, “This contract award is a testament to the quality of our crews and the collaborative nature of our relationship with Equinor. We are grateful to Equinor for the investments they have made in leading-edge safety and automation technology on VALARIS DS-17 and the trust they have placed in us to execute their development programs offshore Brazil. MODEC Entrusts Seatrium with Errea Wittu FPSO Topsides Integration 🚢🔧 MODEC has awarded Seatrium, through its subsidiary Offshore Frontier Solutions, a significant contract for the topsides integration of the Errea Wittu floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit. This development marks another milestone in the longstanding partnership between MODEC and Seatrium, reinforcing Seatrium’s status as a leader in FPSO conversions. The scope of the contract includes the installation and integration of topside modules on the FPSO Errea Wittu, along with completion and commissioning support for MODEC. The FPSO is destined for deployment at ExxonMobil’s Uaru Field in the Stabroek Block, located approximately 200 kilometers offshore Guyana. The FPSO Errea Wittu boasts impressive specifications, with a production capacity of 250,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd), a water injection capacity of 350,000 barrels per day (bwpd), gas production capabilities of 540 million cubic feet per day (mmscfd), and a storage capacity of two million barrels of oil. Marlin Khiew, Executive Vice President, Oil & Gas (Americas) at Seatrium, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “We are pleased to be working with our longstanding customer, MODEC, on yet another FPSO topsides integration project, solidifying our position as the industry leader in FPSO conversions. Through our strong partnership and unwavering dedication, including decades of collaboration with MODEC, we continue to deliver cutting-edge offshore solutions that redefine excellence.” Seatrium has a robust track record in the FPSO sector, having delivered numerous FPSO projects for MODEC since their first conversion, Whakaaropai, in 1996. The company is currently engaged in integration work for FPSO Bacalhau, which will operate in the Bacalhau field, Santos Basin, offshore Brazil. Additionally, Seatrium’s BrasFELS yard in Angra dos Reis, Brazil, is executing topside modules fabrication for FPSO Raia. Errea Wittu represents ExxonMobil’s fifth FPSO in Guyana and will support the development of the Snoek, Mako, and Uaru resources in the Stabroek block. This latest contract underscores the ongoing expansion and technological advancements in the offshore oil and gas sector, with Seatrium at the forefront of delivering innovative and reliable solutions. In related news, ABB was awarded a contract in January 2024 to provide a complete electrical system and associated digital solutions for the Errea Wittu FPSO. PETRONAS Drills First Well in Brazil   Earlier this year, in June, PETRONAS granted a drilling license for block C-M-661 in Campos deepwater. The drillship Valaris Renaissance is already on site to drill the first well in an asset operated by the company in Brazil, identified as 1-PPBL-1-RJS (MOLA-1). This license also covers multiple contingent wells and drill stem tests depending on results.
