This one is more than a business transaction for me 🇺🇸
It could be argued that geopolitical tensions with near-peers have not been this elevated since the Cold War. Russia's invasion of Ukraine, proxy support by extremist powers to terrorists in Gaza, China's increasing brazenness in the South China Sea - all point to a growing need for preparedness of the US and her allies to defend freedom, democracy, and basic human rights on a global scale.
We've said before that REGENT was founded with a commercial focus, and that's true. We were just a couple of aviation-geeks and sailors that wanted a faster, cheaper, greener way to go Boston to New York and LA to SF.
But as we began speaking to leadership in DoD, a real, tangible, important, and urgent use case emerged. We saw the increasing need for maritime high speed logistics to support island hopping in a style we hadnt really relied upon since WWII.
This mission means a great deal to me. We have the opportunity to support and sustain our troops who would be deployed to expeditionary island bases if a major conflict in the Indo-Pacific were to erupt. That means getting food and supplies to those on the frontlines and at the edge.
But even greater than the opportunity to support logistics, by getting our high-speed, low-signature transportation technology into the hands of our servicemembers, we would send the message to would-be adversaries that with these new capabilities, we are prepared in a way they have never seen before.
We therefore have the opportunity to aid in the deterrence of conflict itself. REGENT is one among *many* amazing companies working to ensure that deterrence - because deterrence is the holy grail.
It is frankly terrifying to me that we may be so close to deploying seaglider technology to defend our way of life, but the responsibility and pride I feel as an American to contribute sharpens my focus and resolve. We talk about it alot at REGENT.
So, I am incredibly proud to announce REGENT's first contract with DoD. It is the first step in the admittedly long journey to get seaglider technology into the hands of Marines and make that difference. And if I had to bet on anyone, I'd bet on this amazing team at REGENT to make it happen.
Thank you to those who serve our country, and our allied nations, to protect our way of life. Marines, we are racing to support.
Oorah!
Seagliders are a perfect fit for coastal defense missions & logistics.
As a true dual-use company, we are proud to announce that REGENT has signed a $4.75 million agreement with the Marine Corps Warfighting Lab (MCWL) to demonstrate #seaglider technology for defense logistics operations.
The entire team at REGENT is motivated by the fact that our vessels could save lives, help accomplish critical missions, or play a role in deterring conflict altogether.
Ret. General Robert Neller, who served as the 37th Commandant of the United States Marine Corps and now sits on REGENT’s Defense Advisory Board noted: “REGENT seagliders provide the ability to distribute multiple capabilities in the littorals, including logistics, command and control, and ISR. The REGENT seaglider capabilities will create success.”
This is a another major milestone towards bringing seagliders to market; we're eager to demonstrate their ability to operate in each their modes of operation and understand the vessels' potential in military operations, including maneuver and transport operations.
