Zoonotic Web Unravels Complexity of Transmission Chains Taking a deep dive into the eco-epidemiology of zoonotic events, researchers have dissected the complex interactions involved in zoonoses with the concept of a "zoonotic web"--a detailed network representation of the relationships between zoonotic agents, their hosts, vectors, food sources, and the environment. Using this approach, new findings Vetmeduni and Complexity Science Hub show that, in Austria, zoonotic spillover is most likely to occur at human-cattle and human-food interfaces.

Our antibodies played a role in a recent study published in the Journal of Translational Autoimmunity. This study investigated the presence of treponemal infections in critically endangered Western chimpanzees in Senegal, using an innovative non-invasive stool serology method. Our recombinant proteins of Treponema, including p15, p17, p47 (ABIN934736), as well as our IgG ELISA (ABIN2683268) and IgM ELISA (ABIN2683269) kits, were instrumental in providing compelling evidence of anti-Treponema-specific antibodies in 13 out of 29 chimpanzees. The findings underscore the potential of stool serology as a valuable non-invasive tool for monitoring emerging diseases in wild animals, with significant implications for both wildlife conservation and human health.
