To consolidate my posts this week around grants and funding, I have listed some thoughts to enable you to plan................................... ✍️What is it you are aiming to do? If you don’t plan out your project it will be difficult, if not impossible, to demonstrate why you need financial assistance. You need to explain clearly what your project is aiming to achieve and detail how you will do it. ✍️What are the benefits of your project? This is your opportunity to explain the benefits that your sustainability project will achieve. It’s important to use data and hard facts where you can, rather than using assumptions. For example, the environmental impacts, such as reduction in emissions, what are the energy savings, cost savings along with the benefit to the business and the environment. ✍️Choose the most effective method of support It’s likely the nature of your sustainability project will determine the type of support you will be eligible for. It’s worth remembering that grants tend to work best for projects with defined goals that can be measured as they progress and that they often have a completion deadline. Alternatively, if you are seeking funds to buy assets, such as solar panels or electric vehicle chargers, a loan may be a better option. ✍️Understand your financial contribution There is no such thing as free money. Even if you’re awarded a grant, chances are you’ll have to match a percentage of what you are given with your own money. Understand the maximum amount you can apply for and the amount you will have to contribute. If you secure a loan, ensure you fully understand the timeframes involved and the amount of interest you will be paying back, and if there are any penalties. ✍️Outline your project’s costs Again, without this information it’ll be virtually impossible for anyone to understand what kind of support you need. Obtain a couple of quotes for the project along with a contingency budget to cover any unexpected events or issues. Applications close on 6 October for the latest round of the Top Energy Business Development Fund. The Top Energy Business Development Fund is a $30,000 Grant awarded twice-yearly in support of business ideas or initiatives aimed at growing and diversifying the economy of the Far North. An awesome opportunity for any private sector firm that has been operating for at least 2 years and is currently in the area served by Top Energy’s network from Hukerenui in the south to Cape Reinga in the north, to pitch for financial support on any idea or initiative that helps grow and diversify the local economy. For example, it could be new product innovation, marketing initiative, an export promotion programme or a value-added opportunity. This is a competitive grant. A judging panel will decide whether submissions in Stage 1 qualify and will then invite those winning submissions to enter into Stage 2. In the event that the judging panel decides that there are no suitable submissions, Top Energy reserves its right not to award a grant. We are now accepting applications for the Small Business Equity Fund grant program for businesses located in Aurora and Commerce City, Colorado. The program aims to help businesses transition to energy-efficient equipment, which can save money through reduced energy use. How does the program work? -Fill out the online SBEF application in English or Spanish if your business meets the criteria. Applications close on August 1st, 2024. Applicants will be assessed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Funding will be distributed as long as funding is available. -Once we receive your business application, a Green Business Specialist will contact you to schedule a technical site visit to confirm eligibility, assess efficiency, and approve upgrades. -Businesses will receive up to a combined $10,000 in funds for direct installation and equipment replacement upgrades. -Businesses must agree with the terms of the program and sign the SBEF Participant Agreement to get final approval for the upgrades. -Businesses must sign up in Green Biz Tracker(opens in new window) and become a Colorado Green Business Network support level member to be eligible to apply for additional energy-saving devices, such as occupancy sensors, thermostats, advanced power strips, and more.
