No doubt that Indian healthcare workers are some of the best in the world! However, before it can become a major medical tourism hub, Healthcare ecosystem in India wants much to be done in terms of accountability. Lack of extensive public insurance coverage means private insurance players have a free run of the market! It is a FACT that older citizens with preexisting conditions still CANNOT get health insurance in India, even with high premiums! Healthcare IT, especially a lean, easy-to-use & standardized web-based EMR, can go a long way in implementing, reporting & hence improving critical Financial and Clinical quality measures, so as to bring accountability to the sector. But nothing really changes without strict regulations from the governing bodies. Unlike rest of the developed world, it will be prudent for Indian governments to drive digital health transformation with provider/patient centric public health outcomes, instead of trying to increase profits for insurance companies by subsidizing dubious pills & unnecessary procedures. We DO NOT want to ape the west when it comes to healthcare. I mean, let’s face it, our ancestors gave us Ayurveda! The bedrock of preventive medicine and lifestyle based self care. Frugal healthcare revolution in India(like frugal everything in India) could be just the nudge the world needs right now, in these times of brazen greed, climate denial and hyper inflation, to drive it towards the notion of ‘less is more’!

Recently I read about something interesting! India's medical devices sector is set to become a $50 billion industry soon, thanks to the government's holistic approach. India is moving with pride from being “AtmaNirbhar to Bharat pe Nirbhar” in medical technology. This will be a huge progress from the current market size of $11 billion, positioning India as a global hub for medical device manufacturing and innovation. And I felt extremely happy knowing this. Being associated with Dozee currently & Medtronic in the past has made me quite attached to this sector. And updates like this are really exciting. The MedTech Expo held at Gandhinagar,Gujarat before G-20 summit held a testament to this growth, featuring 231 delegates from 50 countries across ASEAN, Africa, CIS, and the Middle East. With over 400 exhibitors, including MSMEs, domestic and international manufacturers, start-ups, regulatory bodies, and various government entities, This expo showcased the vibrant ecosystem supporting this sector. The medical devices sector is truly one of the sunrise industries in India, driven by advancements in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and medical technologies.
