Over 7,000 people in the UK are currently waiting for a transplant. However, in the past year, there was a 5% increase in the number of patients' lives that were saved or improved due to receiving a donor organ. When the law changed around organ donation back in 2020, it opened the doors to even more donors, but as of 2023, the UK still needs more people to register and that’s where Organ Donation Week comes in. The NHS aims to sign up 25,000 new donors during this week. By raising awareness of the impact that one decision can have on so many lives, we are set to see that number overflow. 🏥 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗽𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 : 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗮 With an inflation rate of around 280% in recent months, the prices of medicines and medical treatments have risen even higher. "Increasing prices are pushing more and more people into poverty, affecting nearly 70% of the children," says Dr. Carina Vetye. She emphasises that “the people’s salaries don't cover expenses beyond the middle of the month. After paying the rent, there's not enough money left to feed the family. Buying medicine has become impossible. The pharmacy is very important to them”. What some take for granted is a daily and existential struggle for others. This is especially true for ensuring good and adequate healthcare in the poor neighbourhood Buenos Aires, Argentina. Recognising this need, we at ETHENEA are proud to support Dr. Carina Vetye's slum pharmacy in Villa Zagala through the Swiss non-profit association Friends of Carina. Dr. Vetye's pharmacy is the only place where thousands of people have access to essential medicines. Additionally, Carina and her team provide medical treatments and education on topics such as nutrition, hygiene, dental care, and contraception, making a vital contribution to health and prevention. We recognise the vital role that Dr. Carina Vetye's slum pharmacy plays in providing essential healthcare to the community and we want to ensure that she and her team can continue to make such a positive impact. Therefore, we are committed to support this important project with donations.
