A team of former Yellow Jackets swimmers, a current Georgia Tech coach, and an Olympic gold medalist added a new member this weekend at the Trans Tahoe Relay — the President of Georgia Tech, Ángel Cabrera. Georgia Tech is once again listed as the top value for college students in America according to The Princeton Review. For the second year in a row, Tech earned the No. 1 ranking for Best Value Colleges amongst public universities. The retroTECH Lab at Georgia Tech allows interaction with vintage technologies, from slide rules to Sega Genesis, as well as emulations of retro platforms on modern devices. The vision of retroTECH is to inspire a culture of long-term thinking, ongoing access to technological heritage, peer-to-peer discovery, and individual empowerment. Through retroTECH, scholars and educators engage in experiential learning, and hands-on research and development around how our lives shape technology — and how technology shapes our lives. 

Fifty years ago, Georgia Tech hosted 11 live music shows by national acts, including eight eventual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees. The remarkable nine-month stretch included Chicago; The Doobie Brothers; Earth, Wind & Fire; Kool & The Gang; Lynyrd Skynyrd; Traffic; Yes; and KISS. The steel dome, open floor, and 8,600-person capacity made the Alexander Memorial Coliseum (since renovated and renamed the Hank McCamish Pavilion) one of Atlanta’s largest indoor venues. Georgia Tech alum and current faculty member, Emily G Weigel, Ph.D., was one of the first recipients of the G. Georgia Tech graduate student Shweta Dutta’s research has recently taken her to Antarctica. A second-year Ph.D. student in the Georgia Tech School of Electrical & Computer Engineering, Dutta spent 14 days in the Arctic continent compiling 800 gigabytes of data. Her research seeks to assess whether the Antarctic site could support the deployment of her lab’s very low frequency antenna system, a structure used to gauge energy generation and dissipation in the Earth’s upper atmosphere. She and her team hope to return to the continent with a battery-powered version of their receiver to record data continuously. | c.gatech.edu/3Vrc5kJ #WeCanDoThat 

Three all-electric vehicles have been added to the Georgia Tech Police Department's patrol division with the help of students. Electrify GT, a student group dedicated to helping the Institute reach carbon reduction goals and sustainability vision, supplied a report with research and cost analysis for adding electric patrol vehicles to campus. -- https://lnkd.in/e5PbSqKf
