The takeaways that Julie outlined are incredibly valuable: Hard work has no shortcuts—so true! Understanding the difference between being a leader and a manager is crucial. Leaning into others and gaining outside perspectives helps us grow. Networking internally is just as important as external networking. Great tip about having lunch or coffee dates with colleagues from different departments!
What a day it was at the North Florida Alliance of Women in Workers' Compensation event yesterday! A massive shout-out to our new Ambassadors, Susan Shemanski, and Sarah Meyer, for their fantastic work organizing such an engaging event. And a big 👏 for Jennifer Woods, ARM-E, as their speaker for being authentically herself ALWAYS and encouraging the group of incredible women in the room to do the same! Biggest takeaways I learned: *Put your head down and do the hard work! There are no shortcuts. *Are you a leader or a manager...and do you know the difference? (Hint: you should) *Lean into others- hearing outside perspectives is how we grow, learn, and improve. *Network internally as much as you do externally. (Hint: Have a lunch or ☕ date with someone in a different department than you each month or quarter.) Thank you to all the event and corporate sponsors! We appreciate everything you do to support the Alliance!

Advocacy isn't just a buzzword; it's a vital tool for creating lasting change in the business world. For women business owners, advocacy means ensuring our voices are heard, our challenges are addressed, and our successes are celebrated. 📈 Leveling the Playing Field: Through advocacy, we push for policies that support equal opportunities, access to capital, and fair regulations. 🤝 Building Strong Networks: Advocacy connects us with like-minded individuals and organizations, amplifying our collective voice and influence. 💼 Driving Economic Growth: Women-owned businesses contribute significantly to the economy. By advocating for our needs, we foster an environment where more women can start and grow successful businesses. Together, we can create a more equitable business landscape for all.

The science is clear - diversity brings organisational and societal success. But bringing diverse voices to the table requires that we create safe public spaces, online and offline. This piece tells the story of Canadian politicians and the disproportionate vitriol and violence they face, as many women in leadership do. It also spells out some of the changes that must happen if we want more diverse voices in public office - including holding social media platforms accountable for their part. https://lnkd.in/drvSGQve

What a great way to spend an afternoon; with an impressive group of women sharing some lessons learned on life’s journey. Some key takeaways I want to remember: · Non-linear pathways are more common than we realize –and is how we learn: be brave, vulnerable and ask for help · Don’t assume others can read your mind – check in with those you work closely with, build your support circle · Surround yourself with experts · Taking care of ourselves physically, mentally so that we can continue to go where we are inspired · Seasons where we can say yes or no: staying within our capacity, seeing the big picture – have patience, slow down and look beyond your current day, year, decade.. · The privilege in accessing education and how it can benefit us · The power and importance of connection and community: we all need community – even introverts. Women can benefit so much from shared experiences and we can inspire one another along the way · Take note of what fills us up – nature, music, reading, shut off technology Thank you Nation2Nation Events, WeBC, and all the panelists!

Siyu Yu and I wrote about our research, forthcoming in Organization Science, for the Wall Street Journal. In our work, we show that a popular social network strategy--building networks rich with high-status individuals--can hinder women's status attainment. We write about how organizations and women themselves can effectively build their networks for professional advancement. https://lnkd.in/eGWEC6K6

As I prepare to return to work, Im taking time to reflect on what really matters to me & how I can best align this through my day-to-day activities & the strategies I Iead at work. For me, this looks like: - Enabling respectful and inclusive workplaces. - Fostering opportunities that address the vast inequality in society. - Opening doors to “let women in” and provide them the means to self-direct their futures. - Surrounding myself with people who share my values and are driven by a bigger purpose. My role at Icon provides me a bit of a head-start on realising some of these things. But none of this happens without partnership, collaboration and shared value relationships. I look forward to exploring who will invite me in & who I will seek out during 2024 to support this agenda. Will it be you? I’d love to connect! Bring on 2024! ……. 2023 finished with some pretty spectacular acknowledgement, like the partnership with Assembled Threads (attached). It just goes to show that when your values align you can achieve great things, and a bigger purpose.

🌟 Day 4: Embracing Allyship and Advocacy Across Dimensions of Diversity 🌟 Today, we shine a spotlight on the transformative power of allyship and advocacy in fostering inclusive and supportive environments across diverse dimensions of identity. By standing in solidarity with marginalized communities, amplifying their voices, and advocating for equity and justice, we can collectively strive towards a more inclusive and equitable workplace where everyone feels valued and empowered to thrive. Allyship calls upon us to actively listen, learn, and support individuals from underrepresented groups, acknowledging our privilege and leveraging it to dismantle systemic barriers and foster meaningful change. By fostering empathetic connections, taking meaningful action, and centering the voices of those at the margins, we can create spaces where everyone feels seen, heard, and respected for their unique identities and experiences. Advocacy expands our impact by pushing beyond allyship to actively challenge biases, advocate for policies that promote diversity and inclusion, and drive systemic change within our organizations and communities. By harnessing our collective influence and resources to create more inclusive policies, practices, and cultures, we can pave the way for a future where diversity is celebrated, equity is upheld, and inclusion is the norm. As we delve into discussions on Embracing Allyship and Advocacy Across Dimensions of Diversity today, let's commit to being agents of change, allies for equity, and advocates for inclusivity within our spheres of influence. Together, let's amplify diverse voices, challenge inequities, and foster a workplace culture where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and succeed. 💬💼 #Allyship #Advocacy #DiversityandInclusion #Equity #InclusiveWorkplace

Sounds great… so what’s the catch? There isn’t one. No pitch. No lectures. No fees. ✅ A safe space for vulnerability and human connection. ❌ An event designed to sell you something. ✅ An inclusive community for ALL self-identifying women in the workplace. ❌ A paid membership with a curated audience. ✅ An open forum where everyone gets to speak and be heard. ❌ A place where the loudest voices drown out the softer ones. ✅ A place without pressure, judgment, or expectations. ❌ Forced participation in anything that makes you uncomfortable. ✅ A place to be seen and supported—exactly as you are. ❌ A place where you’re told who to be and how to show up. ✅ A place to witness others’ truths with empathy and compassion. ❌ A place to compare ourselves to one another. ✅ A place to sit in a circle, shoulder to shoulder, together as equals. ❌ A place to sit quietly in anonymous rows, ignoring the person next to you. ✅ A commitment to confidentiality, trust, and respect. ❌ A place for gossip, drama, or violating boundaries. ✅ A place where we lift each other up. ❌ A place where we tear each other down. We created Talking Truth because we wanted a place to go deeper—a place to take off the mask, feel safe to be ourselves, and realize may all have more in common than we think. And when we meet for the first time on Friday, we meet to celebrate YOU. Because you are worthy. Because you matter. And because you are enough. You are more than enough. We can’t wait to celebrate together and co-create this community with you ❤️ Sign up here to let us know if you can make it: https://lu.ma/a0ampmst
