Regeneration projects can really transform local communities in a positive way, but they are not free of controversy, particularly among local residents. In this report we have analysed, from a large sample of Commonplace consultation projects, the top concerns and level of acceptance of respondents, and how that changes depending on factors such as population density, level of deprivation, respondents connection with the area, age and so on. Deb wrote a book! What makes this book different? This book is filled with stories of real rural communities and the work they’ve done. It's not a bunch of high-flying and costly ideas from a big-city intellectual with zero experience living in a small town. I’m in the trenches too. Many of these stories are ones I’ve helped along the way. All are from folks like you, who want to live in a place they can be a real part of and contribute to in a meaningful way. Some rural people have said to me, “we just don’t know how to get started and move forward.” This is a book of possibilities you can try out: from small steps up to big projects. It’s a hands-on book that showcases completed projects, ideas from around the country, and encourages you to begin saving your own town. It’s timely because no one is talking about this in a large way for small towns! You just can’t be given big city ideas and be expected to dumb them down to solve your challenges. It is time to save your own towns and build community for all who live there! https://lnkd.in/gQjkDQDG

Please see (restricted) access to my review of Handbook on Migration and Ageing, 2023, edited by Sandra Torres & Alistair Hunter at Edward Elgar Publishing. It offers a plethora of discoveries that experienced researchers, as well as those new to the field, will find valuable. https://lnkd.in/gdxUkdxr By connecting life course, family reunification, ethnicity and race with integration and retirement, it showcases the cycle of life touching upon topics such as older migrants care, dementia and loneliness. It brings to the front some significant and extensive research findings, both from the Global North and the Global South, equally vital in present migration movements nowadays. I would be happy to read your comments, wishing you a good reading. #migration #ageing #handbook #edwardelgarpublishing

GIS analyst and quantitative storyteller creating narrative and ideas around physical-cultural-ecological facilities required for sustainable operation of infrastructure at interface between production and consumption.
A year ago today my first book was published. "Writing this book provided skills that I have since transitioned into analyzing infrastructure, urban morphology, and social inequity. If I wrote this book today, social change and urban form would have been the backdrop to all of the stories but I began writing over 2 years ago. I didn’t realize the opportunity or access understanding the importance of location intelligence would provide both personally and as a shift in professional interest." https://lnkd.in/g6Ceihfa

Our December book recommendation: How We Show Up: Reclaiming Family, Friendship, and Community by Mia Birdsong. This is a great year-end read for taking stock and reimagining how we can build more restorative, sustaining, socially just, and whole relationships. What are your year-end reading recommendations?
