Deb wrote a book! What makes this book different? This book is filled with stories of real rural communities and the work they’ve done. It's not a bunch of high-flying and costly ideas from a big-city intellectual with zero experience living in a small town. I’m in the trenches too. Many of these stories are ones I’ve helped along the way. All are from folks like you, who want to live in a place they can be a real part of and contribute to in a meaningful way. Some rural people have said to me, “we just don’t know how to get started and move forward.” This is a book of possibilities you can try out: from small steps up to big projects. It’s a hands-on book that showcases completed projects, ideas from around the country, and encourages you to begin saving your own town. It’s timely because no one is talking about this in a large way for small towns! You just can’t be given big city ideas and be expected to dumb them down to solve your challenges. A year ago today my first book was published. "Writing this book provided skills that I have since transitioned into analyzing infrastructure, urban morphology, and social inequity. If I wrote this book today, social change and urban form would have been the backdrop to all of the stories but I began writing over 2 years ago.
