5 Tips If You Are New To Amazon Seller Advertising. 1 - Understand the A9 Algorithm – It's Picky Like a Cat: Just like a finicky feline, Amazon's A9 algorithm has its preferences. It loves relevancy, customer satisfaction, and keywords as much as cats love catnip. To win its favour, make sure your product listings have all the right keywords, but don't overstuff them. You wouldn’t overfeed your cat, right? Same principle! 2 - Choose Your Ad Type – It’s Like Dating: Sponsored Products: These are the reliable, "let’s grab coffee" kind of ads. Great for boosting a specific product, especially if it’s a star performer. Sponsored Brands: Think of these as your "let’s get serious" relationship ads. They boost your brand’s visibility and say, “Hey, I’m in this for the long haul.” Sponsored Display Ads: The "I just can’t quit you" ads, ideal for retargeting those who’ve shown interest. It’s like saying, “Remember that great date (product) we had? Want to try it again?” 3 - Bidding Strategy – Play it Like Poker: Start with automatic targeting to get a feel for the game, then switch to manual bidding when you’re ready to call the bluffs. Remember, in Amazon’s casino, the house (A9 Algorithm) always wins. So, bet wisely, keep a poker face, and adjust your bids like you're trying to bluff your way to a big pot. 4 - Listing Quality – It’s Showtime!: Your product listings should be like a Broadway show - eye-catching, engaging, and leaving the audience (buyers) wanting more. High-quality images, captivating descriptions, and a price that gets a standing ovation are your tickets to the big time. No one wants to watch a dull show, and no one wants to click on a dull listing. 5 - Regularly Monitor Your Campaigns – Be the Sherlock Holmes of Data: Keep a magnifying glass on your ad campaigns. Observe the CTRs, ACoS, and ROAS like they’re clues in a detective novel. Make adjustments with the cunning of Holmes solving a case at Baker Street. Remember, the game is always afoot in the Amazon marketplace! Types of Amazon ads Amazon offers three types of self-service advertising options to sellers. These include sponsored product ads, sponsored brand ads and sponsored display ads. Amazon Stores is also listed as an advertising option. This free feature simply allows sellers to create on-brand, multi-page storefronts in Amazon and is definitely worth spending time on – particularly, if you plan to use the sponsored brand ads mentioned below. 1. Sponsored Product Ads: Amazon sponsored product ads appear at the top, to the side or within Amazon search results, as well as throughout individual product pages. They boost the visibility of particular products and drive Amazon users to product pages. To take advantage of these ads, your products must be eligible to win the Amazon Buy Box, meaning they must be competitively priced and you must have an excellent track record. Sponsored product ads: Amazon sponsored product ads give your products great visibility at the top of search results. They must be eligible for the Amazon Buy Box 2. Sponsored Brand Ads: More extensive than product ads, Amazon’s sponsored brand ads help introduce new shoppers to your business. They usually feature a logo which links to your Amazon storefront and, sometimes, they feature a selection of products from your range. Amazon sponsored brand ads are an investment in your brand awareness. If users click through, they’re likely to remember your name and browse your products. For the past 6 months, I’ve secretly been working on a new project. And today, I‘m sharing it with the world 🌎 Let me start with a story: Amazon was an online retailer for nearly 20 years before it decided to build out a media and advertising business. When the Amazon Advertising Platform first launched in 2012, it changed the very nature of their eCommerce platform. When advertising money began to pour in, Amazon was no longer a marketplace for brands and consumers. Instead, it became a complex eCommerce ecosystem where sellers could compete on product quality, search ranking, and advertising dollars. The result: 💵 Additional revenue to the platform 📸 Exposure for the sellers attempting to reach new customers 🛍 Discovery for buyers looking to find new products In the case of Amazon, the most successful sellers weren't the ones spending the most money on advertising. They were the ones who focused on improving their SRO and PDPs BEFORE advertising went live. Their secret to success wasn’t the ad spend. It was the competitive ranking. Now, a similar shift is occurring within the wholesaler marketplace, Faire. Faire is a platform that allows retailers to discover and purchase from wholesalers located around the world. The company is doing for the wholesale market what Amazon did for consumer products. In the last few months, Faire has launched their own advertising business to allow wholesalers to promote their products on the platform. It's currently in beta, but once Faire’s advertising tools become available to all sellers on the platform, the floodgates will open. The wholesalers that focus on their SRO and product rankings NOW will have a serious advantage. That’s why I’m launching a new offering to support those wholesalers on Faire.
