30 years in the Drives Industry 2023 is my 30th year in the Drives industry, and now it is time to reflect a bit on what has happened in the 30 years. I have had the privilege of working for some great companies, but most important with some great colleagues. Starting in product development at Danfoss Drives as a young engineer, learning all the basics in a drive and being a part of the team developing a product from idea to launch. Moving to Grundfos learning a lot using drives on pumps and learning about the applications taken up different positions from Product Development ending in Product Management for several years. Then joining ABB Drive Products in a role supporting segments and sales based on the things I have learned in the last 30 years. Looking at our arguments for using drives. It is still energy savings combined with process control that are the main arguments for using drives and I do not see that change. One thing has changed. I cannot remember one single discussion on sustainability or decarbonizing in the early 90ties. The good thing is that it links well to the use of drives. Of course, it will create some work in the beginning, but Drives are on the agenda, and they will stay on the agenda for years to come. I have sure we will have some great years ahead of us.   Have you asked me 30 years ago if I would be working in the same industry after 30 years, I would likely have said: No, but I have never regretted my decision to join, and I have no plan to leave. I will not be here 30 years more… But there are still a lot to learn. Have fun and let us make the drive industry interesting for young people…We need them, they might end up staying 30 years! Embarking on this academic journey has been nothing short of a rewarding adventure, and today, I am delighted to share the successful completion of my final year project offered by Siemens. This endeavor focused on a comprehensive overhaul of the Powder Paint Plant, a critical component in the switchgear production process. Through this project, I've not only deepened my understanding of industrial automation but also gained invaluable insights into process refinement. 🌟 BACKGROUND: The Powder Paint Plant, a linchpin in Siemens' production cycle, operates through four intricate processes: Cleansing & Rinsing, Drying, Powder Coating, and Curing. Our project was driven by the aspiration to optimize this plant, enhancing its efficiency and precision. 🔍 METHODOLOGY: Our approach was meticulous, involving thorough problem analysis, clear selection criteria, and practical solutions. Each solution underwent rigorous real-world testing for applicability and feasibility. 🧐 KEY INSIGHTS: Our efforts yielded impactful results. We upgraded the conveyor, hangers, and introduced automation for improved efficiency, while robotic arms now orchestrate precise coating in an advanced paint booth. ✅ OUTCOME: I'm thrilled to announce that the solutions we proposed, firmly rooted in our systematic methodology, not only met but surpassed the project's goals.
