Blended finance has become a buzz word in development often focusing on volume only. In the paper of Matthieu Pegon he discusses when the use of blended finance (or subsidies) is justified and how to maximise social returns (measuring the benefits and costs of an investment to society, including social, environmental and financial returns). I believe that with the SDG Impact Finance Initiative we aim to be in line with this analysis and strategic approach. An equally important aspect is the disclosure of the subsidy element. A concrete discussion on the need for more #data regarding the #climatetransition in order to support solid economic analysis & rigorous pricing from the private sector. Great contribution by Paul Andrews and the report below shining a light on the often overlooked but very important details regarding #transitionfinance.
Transition finance is becoming a larger and larger part of how investors are looking to incorporate net zero into their overall portfolio strategy; however it comes with a distinct set of challenges like inadequate fiscal policies, non-standardized definitions and metrics, a lack of endorsement from international organizations, and more. To resolve some of these challenges, last week, the CFA Institute Research and Policy Center published the report “Navigating Transition Finance: An Action List” by my coworkers Winnie Mak and Andres Vinelli. This report discusses the different stages of readiness and adoption of transition finance across a selection of industries and markets, and offers recommendations for corporations, investors, and policymakers to improve the environment for investors interested in transition finance.
