Supporting events like this "Shred Like a Girl" Jam in Ohio this past Saturday, is part of what we are all about. We help promote these events throughout the year via our social channels, and we send branded Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word merch and stickers for prizes and give-a-ways. We feel it is extremely important to support these grass roots events to get more girls and women involved in skateboarding and we applaud the people who put these events together, host them at private skateparks and all the on site work that goes into them! Dead of winter in Ohio and look how many girls showed up - many driving hours to attend. Thanks to all the organizers that rely on us to help support their events. https://lnkd.in/gCfc6CxS

As a skateboarder, researcher, and woman who advocates for positive, safe, and inclusive spaces, it is vital to have the space to discuss what it looks like when subcultures expand into high-performance, elite sports competitions. All the more significant when girls are leading the way. Having grown up on a BMX and a skateboard, I can vouch for the exponential progress of women and girls in both sports. The below article also highlights their role in promoting inclusivity and diversity. The documentary trailer posted in the comments helps to take this message to another level. Edited extract: Skateboarding is a means of self-expression for many people, with its culture growing to encompass music, fashion and art. It has become a lifestyle and an attitude: a way for non-conformists to escape the constraints of societal norms. And as skateboarding has evolved from being a simple recreational activity to a sport – it was approved to be an Olympic event in 2016, for the 2020 Summer Games – it became a global platform for activism and advocacy for inclusivity and diversity around the world. However, there is a significant gap in representation: The focus within skateboarding media predominantly centres on men. But women are playing a pivotal role in leading skateboarding’s evolution. #bmx #skateboarding #progress
Opinion: In the world of skateboarding, women are shredding expectations

Representation can be powerful. “I can’t believe I landed my first 720!!! And to be the first girl in the world to land a 7 in competition,” an ecstatic Trew said on instagram. First female in a male activated niche. Worth a big celebration of wins in life and in sports! Reminded me of when my two older sons, age 21 and 24 now, grew up with TechDeck toys, and Tony Hawk’s skateboard video games where Toys R Us had a huge inventory of them — usually selling out. This is a big moment today. A look at 2023: “Australian teenager Arisa Trew, 13, becomes first female in skateboarding history to land 720 trick.” Inspired to share, that the more we are able to openly share about representation in different industries, skills, roles and in all heights of opportunities, the more it can become a powerful part of change, and influence progress. Why not? This conversation and post is not about feminism, or lack of diversity — it is about representing the greatest potential for growth, opening new pathways to lead for the next generations, and to invest in the future of equitable advancements and passing forward a mindset that can embrace breaking barriers. Most of our PR Clients are long-term partnerships, with long-term goals. For brands, this is often the most effective way to use PR. We even have an unofficial edict that we "don't take on projects" but occasionally, the perfect short-term project pops up, and we say yes. What makes a great PR project? 1. Clear goals and a compelling story. In this case, the client's goal was a mention or shout-out in Willamette Week, the local paper known for guiding Portlanders to what is new and cool. 2. It aligns with our values (in this case - community, supporting independent businesses & a love of skateboarding). This story is the best-case outcome. We're counting it as a win. Many thanks to Colin Sharp for trusting us with his story and to Nemo Design Creative Director and former COMMONWEALTH SKATEBOARDING, LLC owner Jennifer Sherowski for the referral. Life is better when you work with good people on cool projects. #skateboarding #PRagency #PortlandOregon #smallbusinessoregon #publicrelations https://lnkd.in/edmTm6Sp

🏐 Community Spirit Shines at Annual Volleyball Tournament 🏐 This past weekend, our local community came alive with camaraderie and joy during our annual volleyball tournament. People of all ages gathered to compete, connect, laugh, and most importantly, have fun 🙂 In our fast-paced professional world, events like these remind us of the simple yet profound joy of community. The prize? A humble banana. The real reward? The sense of togetherness and shared smiles that lit up the day. Why This Matters: 1️⃣ 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Sports bring people together, fostering connections that transcend age, background, and profession. 2️⃣ 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹-𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴: Community sports events boost physical and mental health, providing a much-needed break from daily routines. 3️⃣ 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀: These moments of joy strengthen our community fabric and remind us of the importance of coming together. As professionals, we often focus on metrics and KPIs. But let's not forget the value of community and the simple pleasures of shared experiences. This tournament was a beautiful reminder that sometimes, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆. We anticipated that it would take around 10 years to get skateboarding participation from females to align more with surfing, which is currently around 25% female. We've invested over $800,000 since 2019 into females in skateboarding, and are pleased to say that in both the Amateur and Pro leagues, we are currently at 23.43% females in our leagues. Investment in Womens sport is vital, with our participation looking to hit its goal by the end of next season, 4 years ahead of schedule. It's not just increasing participation, it's helping them succeed. Chloe Covell has just won Back to Back Street league events on the World Tour, and all 4 Australians in Street at the Olympic Qualifying events have come through the league. In the Bowl, 6 out of the 9 females who competed at the world championships last month came through the leagues. We've just seen a whole new crop of next generations take out the Podium at the Rumble Championship event in Mackay, and we are looking to continually support the next generation on their journey. Prize money has been equal since the 2012/2013 Season in our leagues, with the debate over prize money being a non issue for over a decade now. Our first winner of equal prize money Shari Lawson has gone on to become an Olympic Judge. If you invest in women, they will succeed. For a decade of progress, strategies and hard work, there has been no state government support, no federal funding support and no support from the Governing Body. The funding and programming has been completely developed from hard work, input from the community and corporate sponsorships and partnerships. Don't underestimate as an organisation the benefits of investing in sport, and especially Womens sport, there are stories of success to tell thanks to community minded people making a leap of faith. We've been blessed with partners like BMD Group, who support women in sport across AFL, Rugby League, Skateboarding & more. Tom Mort at Mad Mex Fresh Mexican, who provided support to help us develop content and grow the women's side of skateboarding. KommunityTV ensured when we broadcast that the women's was covered equally to the males, and a lot of editorial was based on the females competing. If you'd like to be involved in the journey, we recommend reaching out and becoming part of the movement. Some noteable mentions of Women leaders who have helped develop womens skateboarding include: Shari Lawson Kat Williams Anne Marie Harrison Karen D. blayze Harmer Claudia Stanger Amanda France Grace Ivory We thank you for your contribution to skateboarding
Exciting times ahead with both the 2024 Rumble Amateur Series and 2024 BMD Group Pro Tour getting started as early as next month. 2023 was the biggest year to date and opportunities are available for businesses to get involved and partners with skateboarding's largest competition platform In Australia for the 2024 Season. Womens participation in our leagues was at 23.53% which has continually grown and the support from partners so far has absolutely helped in developing our females. Check out the document below, and see where you can help skateboarding and grow your brand in one of Australia's fastest growing sports. How do trampoline parks affect the Freestyle Trampoline ecosystem? You can think of trampoline parks, like skateboard parks. Athletes pay a small fee to get into the park with their friends by the hour, stand around a ramp or rail, take turns attempting a skill and encourage each other to progress. Flippers throw mats for each other, give tips and tricks to getting past difficult movements and overall encourage each other. It essentially runs like a democracy or peer to peer training. Wouldn't it be interesting if traditional clubs operated in the same way, but with an educated coach overseeing the process? It would give the athletes the independence we all crave, but also can help athletes stay safe. The FTA works with parks that have this exact mentality like @airparc Zillertal looking for the happy medium between tight coaching regulations and utter chaos by training with their staff, offering educational resources for the athletes and coaches and overall making them a valued part of the Flipping community. #trampoline #Equality #peersupport #friends #freestyletrampoline
