this is such an important film about the immigration system in the U.S. Thank you for making it Vidyut Latay 🙏 I encourage international students and immigrants in the U.S. plus all those who work alongside/with/for them (e.g. coworkers, #DEI professionals) to definitely watch this film to get an understanding of the chaos that the legal immigration system creates for folks who have all the right paperwork but very limited protections. As a mental health professional who has been in the Green Card backlog, I have seen the issue up close and recognized it for what it is - an outcome of deeply discriminatory immigration policies that lead immigrants to be judged for where they are born rather than the skills we bring to our jobs. our companies petition for temporary work visas based on our skills #h1bvisa but when it comes time for our lawful permanent residency #greencards based on those exact skills, we are subject to per-country limits that create a decades-long wait for green cards if you're from India. so while we wait, we are indentured labor in our organizations, subject to the whims of our organizations employment policies. The large number of Indian immigrants who had to self-deport due to #layoffs2023 is one example. when you and your family are forced to abandon the life you built in the US because your work visa is so precarious, you realize how fragile the process of immigration is. This movie, Alien, is how we attempt to make sense of what it means to be considered a Resident Alien in the US despite living and serving here for decades. and how we find a way to love our homes in the US. Join us at the screening in Seattle! and reach out to the filmmaker to organize a screening where you are! #internationalstudents #immigration #immigrants #greencard #greencardbacklog #alien

We have thrilling news to share with you! Following a successful World Premiere in Kansas, our independent documentary, "Alien," which casts a spotlight on the experiences of legal, high-skilled immigrants in the US, has now embarked on its journey through film festivals. We are delighted to announce that the film last week won big in India by receiving an award at the Madras Independent Film Festival in Chennai. Our journey continues as we gear up for the US premiere at the prestigious Oscar-qualifying Tasveer South Asian Film Festival 2023 in Seattle on October 15th. None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of our incredible cast, crew, and numerous well-wishers, both near and far. To each and every one of you, we extend our heartfelt gratitude. If you share our passion for addressing the challenges posed by the broken American immigration system and wish to make a meaningful impact, please do not hesitate to reach out to me personally. We are also eager to spread the word about "Alien" and our mission, and we cordially invite you to join us at the in-person screening in Seattle. Following the screening, there will be a stimulating panel discussion on immigration, and we will be sharing the details with you soon.
