Boards of Directors – How Relevant To The Business Is The Board? In 2014, activist investor Starboard Value successfully replaced all 12 directors on the board of Darden Restaurants. The following shows the Darden incumbent board at the time of Starboard's proxy fight, Starboard’s value creation plan initiatives, the Starboard director nominees and the before and after performance (revenue, EBITDA, EBITDA margin and stock price). Friday is Hive Day! “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” – Helen Keller Making honey takes a whole team of bees, each doing up to 7 specific roles including nursery nurse, cell builder, Queen feeder, security, and air conditioning. Only 15% of bees in a colony are flying and foraging at any one time and only then for the last 2-3 days of their life. It takes a team. For a beekeeper to harvest honey takes teamwork too. You need to lift the heavy honey boxes, remove the 1000s of bees that are working on them, transport the frames to a place away from bees that are not impressed to be losing their life’s labour. You then need to gently cut the protective wax lids off each cell to release the mature honey. These sticky frames then need to be put in a centrifugal spinner to extract the honey at speed. The honey needs filtering and then because it is hydrophilic it needs to be kept in an airtight container to keep out moisture. The process can be terrifically sticky so there’s cleaning to do too…and then these empty frames need returning to the bees to repair and rebuild the wax cells for the next wave of honey production.
