Incredible! 97-year-old WWII paratrooper vet returned to Normandy to recreate his D-Day jump. 🫡 https://lnkd.in/eR2QBJDa
You should at least once in your lifetime go to Omaha Beach at 6:30 in the morning on a summer day and then go to the American Cemetery where 9388 are buried. Then tour around Normandy sort of in the backwoods where people will come out of their homes and thank you as an American. It will both make you proud to be an American and make you understand the sacrifices on that day until the end of the war. I've been 4 times and is still a very emotional experience. Just don't go around D-Day - it is a zoo of people
A new night sat over the Omaha, Utah, Juno, Gold & Sword beach sand Eisenhower's telegram accepting failure close at hand "Your task will not be an easy one," wrote Ike Read by 13,000 paratroopers boarding planes to strike Six drop zone markers missing and out of sight Death awaits our Airborne throughout the night The beaches lay bare Our enemy scanning everywhere The sunrise of freedom kicks off D-Day The infantry and airborne fulfill their mission to lead the bloody way Landing boat ramps drop as machine gun bullets pop Souls leave their bodies as good men fall and drop Chaos explodes The strategy at crossroads Take a breath deep within As your baptism by fire will begin Freedom has always come from deep within The day's Great Crusade that begun Created horrors that cannot be undone Transformation within is forever A warrior's greatest endeavor To be free from within Is to heal the pain which is how we really win Peace to Our Fallen Transformation is Now Our Calling Devotion to Our Living Selfless in Our Giving The remembrance of war tells a transformational story of combat, loss, peace, healing & celebration of freedom's deeper meaning in our self transcendence
Awesome! I had the honor of doing something similar for Market Garden on the 60th, I tandemed a veteran onto Ginkelheath near Arnhem. Made a little bit more special as it was my thousandth jump. I knew it was coming up and didn’t jump for 2 wks beforehand just to make that milestone. Hands down it was the best battlefield tour I’ve ever had, given to me from someone who was there at 5000ft above where he landed 60 yrs earlier! When we landed, he stood up, donned his maroon machine, shook my hand, thanked me and said “this is how it’s done young un” and walked off to the adoring crowds of young Dutch ladies😂
Jumping with him on that day is my friend Art Schaeffer who owns Skydive Palatka in Palatka, Florida. He is an amazing person and skydiver who fully supports ROUND CANOPY PARACHUTING TEAM-USA FOUNDATION INC “More than just a jump.”
Much respect 🫡
Truly still The Greatest Generation!
Complete full on goose bumps The healing he must have felt ….
My dad was a paratrooper with the Airborne 11 in WWII , landed in the Philippines to clear the way for the Marines, took a bullet in the chest through the back from the Japanese but recovered and made it home with his Purple Heart, this was awesome to see this vet take another jump at 97 in celebration of his bravery and freedom for all of us!
God bless him.
Glenn Mallo unfortunately, we lost Tom about a year after he made his second jump into France for #DDay75. https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/obituaries/story/2022-11-18/tom-rice-wwii-d-day-paratrooper-who-continued-to-jump-out-of-planes-dies-at-101
