ACN Healthcare Celebrates Pride: Reflecting on Inclusion in Healthcare This Pride Month, ACN Healthcare joins the call for reflection, empowerment, and unity. While we strive to be allies for the LGBTQIA+ community, we recognize that true inclusion is a continuous journey. For many LGBTQIA+ individuals, healthcare settings haven't always felt like safe spaces to be their authentic selves. At ACN, we're committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for both patients and employees. Here's how we're reflecting on our journey towards better inclusion: -Unconscious Bias Training: We're actively addressing unconscious bias through training programs for our staff. -LGBTQIA+ Patient Sensitivity: Ensuring our staff provides culturally competent care, respecting diverse identities. -Building Inclusive Workplaces: Fostering a safe space for open communication and celebrating the unique experiences of all our employees. Together, let's create a healthcare system where everyone feels empowered and respected. #PrideMonth #HealthcareForAll #ACNCares

🌟 Equal Care Day🌟 This Thursday, on the 29th of February, we celebrate Equal Care Day, shedding light on the unequal distribution of care work between genders. Despite progress, women continue to bear a significantly larger share of daily caregiving responsibilities, impacting their participation in the workforce and within teams. We invite you and ourselves as well to initiate conversations within your teams about caregiving responsibilities: 💡 Who is currently responsible for a lot of care work in the team? 💡 Do they get the credit and recognition they deserve? 💡 How can we better balance work and family responsibilities? 💡 What support systems can we implement to ensure equitable distribution of care work within our teams? Talking about these topics is seldom easy going, but these tough conversations and subsequent changes are key to transforming work environments into safe and just spaces for all. To our German-speaking audience: Visit the Equal Care Day e.V. website to learn more about this vital initiative. https://equalcareday.de/ #EqualCareDay #GenderEquality #CareWork #WorkLifeBalance #Inclusion #UnityEffect #Teamwork #SupportEquality

Creating affirming spaces in healthcare goes beyond compliance; it's about fostering a culture where diversity is celebrated, and every person feels valued. Studies show that LGBTQIA+ individuals often face barriers to healthcare, from discrimination to inadequate understanding of their unique health needs. By implementing affirming practices and designations, healthcare providers not only bridge these gaps but also empower individuals to seek care without fear of stigma or prejudice. #HealthEquity #Equity ##InclusiveHealthcare #LGBTQIA

I help women's and LGBTQ+ health companies share their science in compassionate, approachable language.
My 3.5 years of #clinicaleducation failed to prepare me to care for the unique needs of the #lgbtq community. I completed graduate school and residency just 7 years ago. While many clinical training programs have since instituted #lgbtqhealth content, most established #clinicians didn’t receive the benefit of these new trainings. This ✨ One to Watch Wednesday ✨ I’m highlighting a #startup that focuses on filling the gaps in traditional #medicaleducation, ensuring that practicing providers come up to speed on key issues in LGBTQ+ health. Happy #O2WW to Violet! The Problem: 🏳️🌈 88% of LGBTQ+ people believe that their sexual orientation affects the type of health care they need, but 52% fear a negative reaction if they come out to their provider (Wilson, et al., 2016). 🙅🏽 Some providers, particularly those who are not LGBTQ+ themselves, have the opposite view. In hospice care, for example, providers view a patient’s sexual orientation and gender identity as “private” and “irrelevant” to their care (Cloyes, et al., 2022). 📚 As of 2009-2010, U.S. medical schools included just 5 hours of curriculum on LGBTQ+ health care needs. As of 2020, programs had increased these training time by just 2.22 hours per year (Nowaskie & Patel, 2020). 🏥 Medical trainees are still woefully underprepared to address the needs of LGBTQ+ individuals. While many are more aware of the unique needs of queer patients, most feel that their clinical skills lag behind their awareness. The Solution: Training in LGBTQ+ #culturalcompetency improves providers’ knowledge and skills in LGBTQ-specific issues, and it improves their attitudes and behaviors when interacting with queer patients (Yu, et al., 2023). 💜 Violet has developed a comprehensive platform to provide this training. They offer high-quality #continuingeducation on LGBTQ-specific health issues to bring providers up to speed. 🌈 Their trainings include tracks on #BIPOC communities; lesbian, gay, and bisexual people; and trans and gender non-conforming (GNC) individuals. 📊 The Violet dashboard provides Inclusivity Analytics to help health care organizations track the cultural competency of providers throughout their entire network. 🤝 Violet’s #inclusivecare matching technology helps LGBTQ people connect with providers who are properly trained and prepared to care for their unique needs. ✅ Violet’s Benchmarks help standardize the measurement of provider cultural competency so patients know exactly how well-prepared their providers are. I look forward to continuing my own education in LGBTQ+ care and advocacy, and I’m grateful for companies like Violet who are making inclusive care more accessible for patients and providers. Violet has closed pre-seed and seed funding rounds. I look forward to watching them grow! 👀 Violet is One to Watch! 👀 https://lnkd.in/gBwzXyKQ #lgbtqhealthmatters #inclusivehealthcare #healthequity #DEIB #clinicalconsultant #medicalwriter

"Even today, disclosing my vision impairment can vastly alter my healthcare experience to the negative." Have you ever had a healthcare experience that made you lose trust in the healthcare system? NSW LGBTIQ+ Health Strategy 2022-2027: The Key Message The NSW Government, led at the time by Honourable Brad Hazzard MP, former Minister for Health, unveiled the NSW LGBTIQ+ Health Strategy 2022-2027, aimed at transforming healthcare for the Queer community in New South Wales. This strategy aims to address the unique health challenges and historical adversities faced by Queer individuals, with a focus on delivering high-quality, inclusive, and responsive care. Developed with the insights of over 1,600 LGBTIQ+ voices, it stands as a testament to the power of engagement with our Queer community and an acknowledgement of the scope of very real, human needs that really do transcend our community in NSW. Concentrating on the needs of vulnerable groups within the LGBTIQ+ community and dismantling existing barriers, the strategy aims to cultivate a healthcare environment where everyone can thrive. Signifying a major effort to improve equality in health, this initiative seeks to embed a legacy of empathy not just within the healthcare system, but also within the societal structure of New South Wales as a whole. https://lnkd.in/gmtjis9m The Hon Brad Hazzard #bradhazzard #bradhazzardmp #markbutlermp #ryanparkmp #LGBT #LGBTQ #LGBTQI #LGBTQIA #Transhealth #Nonbinary #genderdiverse #Gay #Lesbian #LGBTIQ #healthcare #health #nswhealth #hospital #newsouthwales #australia #medicine #medicines #medical #surgical #surgery #doctor #doctors #imhiring #recruitment #recruiter #talent #talentsource #talentsourcer #talentsourcing #talentmanagement #equality #diversity #inclusion #diversityandinclusion #inclusionmatters #diversityequityinclusion #diversityequityandinclusion #diversityequityinclusionandbelonging #diversityequityinclusionbelonging

Roundtable discussions are particularly effective in promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion due to their inherently inclusive and participatory nature. ** By design, it includes diverse participants from various backgrounds, identities, and experiences, thus ensuring that diverse voices are included in the conversation. ** It provides equal opportunities for all participants to speak and share their ideas, reducing power imbalances and giving equal chance to contribute and addressing any disparities in participation. **It fosters an environment where participants feel respected, allowing them to express their thoughts without fear of judgment. One notable forum was held at our corporate office, co-led and hosted by #MartinDowGroup on the topic of "Becoming Disability-Confident." This event marked the 1st ever Pharma and Healthcare Roundtable, and it was conducted in partnership with ConnectHear. By bringing together stakeholders; Aga Khan University, DOW UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH SCIENCES (DUHS) AGP Limited, ATCO Laboratories Limited, Brookes Pharma (Private) Limited, Pfizer, and Hoechst Pakistan Limited, to address these critical issues. Shahrukh Masood and Azima Dhanjee have made a lasting impact, paving the way for ongoing dialogue and action in promoting disability confidence within the sector. Their expert facilitation ensured that every voice was heard, fostering an inclusive and engaging environment. Key Highlights: ** #Focused Participation: Participants were actively engaged and stayed on topic, contributing valuable insights and perspectives. ** #Meaningful Dialogue: The discussions were rich and productive, leading to actionable insights and deeper understanding. ** #Inclusive Environment: Azima and Shahrukh created a space where everyone felt comfortable sharing their thoughts and experiences. Sensitization towards disability is indeed a critical need in today's society. Kudos to ConnectHear for their dedicated mission to shift from sympathy to empathy, normalize reactions and behaviors, and promote understanding, acceptance, and support for individuals with disabilities. photo credits: Owais Siddiqui Navroz Surani, PhD Syed Farhan Mahmood Maliha Murtaza Khan Nargis K.
