This is why at Piercing Sun Consulting, in 2023 and 2024, we made a commitment to and investment in paying a living wage. We needed expertise in environmental sustainability aimed at carbon neutrality and net zero so we chose to hire an underrepresented minority independent contractor and pay her a living wage. Our investment enabled her to: 1) Earn a living wage that supported her educational and living expenses 2) Pay her tuition and other associated costs 3) Graduate with practical experience, significantly enhancing her career prospects By providing this financial support, Piercing Sun Consulting contributed to our contractors personal and professional growth and reinforced our commitment to equity and sustainable development. This initiative aligns with several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly: 1) SDG 4: Quality Education - Supporting educational attainment and lifelong learning opportunities 2) SDG 5: Gender Equality - Empowering women through educational and economic opportunities 3) SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth - Promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth by ensuring decent work and equitable pay Piercing Sun Consulting's strategic spending on local independent suppliers, especially through targeted initiatives like supporting the education and economic stability of underrepresented groups, underscores our commitment to social responsibility and sustainable development. With 56.02% of our non-labor expenses directed towards local independent suppliers, we demonstrated a strong dedication to cultivating local economic growth and supporting equity within our community.
