Every day we see the richness of culture and diversity that immigrants and refugees bring to their new communities. This Disability Pride Month, we celebrate families like Ana Rosa's, whose children with auditory disabilities are thriving in their new lives and whose unique journeys inspire us all. 💓 📸 Kaylee Greenlee Beal

Today is International Day Person's with Disabilities, it's a good time to acknowledge as a Nation, Australia Ranks 21 of out 29 OECD countries in terms of employment rates for people with a disability. The theme this year is "United in action to rescue and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for, with, and by persons with disabilities". One of the 17 goals relates to work and economic growth, with a target for “full and productive employment and decent work” to be achieved for all women and men, including people with disabilities and young people, by 2030. Last week the House Select Committee Inquiry into Workforce Australia Employment Services released their final reports with some very sensible recommendations to improve the Disability employment system and sector, which is under substantial stress. If the recommendations get implemented, it would improve job seeker's lives dramatically. Rebuilding Employment Services – Parliament of Australia (aph.gov.au)

This Indigenous Peoples Day, we celebrate the strength and resilience of Native American communities, honor their rich cultures and traditions, while also recognizing the challenges some of their children with disabilities face. With less access to healthcare, education, and transportation, Native American children and families do not always get the support they need to thrive. In celebrating the diversity of Indigenous Peoples, we are also raising awareness about the disparities and the need for more inclusive support systems. Let's look forward to a future where every child, regardless of their background, receives the care and support they deserve. By working together, we can build a world that celebrates the abilities, dreams, and potential of all children. #IndigenousPeoplesDay #InclusiveFuture #DisabilityInclusion #StrengthInDiversity

Minister for International Development and the Pacific, Minister for Defence Industry at Australian Government
Australia is proud to be a global leader in advancing the rights of persons with disabilities across the Blue Pacific, in Southeast Asia and globally. A core issue for action of our development program, and our international engagement more broadly, is developing a new International Disability Equity and Rights Strategy. As we develop the new Strategy, I am committed to ensuring the views of people with disabilities, organisations for persons with disabilities, and other interested stakeholders are heard. We know that when all persons – including persons with disabilities – are meaningfully engaged in making decisions about things that impact them, we get better solutions and outcomes. The public submission process for the new Strategy is now open, and I encourage any interested individuals or organisations to have their say to help shape it. Public submissions are open until 15 December 2023. We’re accepting submissions via various methods to maximise accessibility. To learn more about the consultation process and to have your say on Australia’s future Strategy, please visit https://lnkd.in/g376vGVG #DevelopmentMatters #AustralianAid #DisabilityEquity Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

Today is National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day - a time to celebrate the strengths and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. The majority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are thriving and growing up strong in their cultures, with support from their families and communities. However, a significant number of children continue to face ongoing challenges stemming from colonisation and its effects. This includes discrimination, poverty, systemic removal, intergenerational trauma, dislocation from land and culture, and community disempowerment. To achieve equality, we must approach these challenges through a holistic approach, considering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children’s wellbeing, safety and development. Children’s Day has been run annually since 1988 and is the initiative of SNAICC - the national peak body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child and family services.

Today is National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children’s day and the theme for this year is “Little Voices, Loud Futures” In 1988, the first National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day was established on 4 August and was set against the backdrop of protests led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their supporters during the bicentennial year. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders peoples felt a day was needed to celebrate their children, to give them confidence and make them feel special and included. The majority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are thriving and growing up strong in their cultures, with support from their families and communities, however, a significant number of children continue to face ongoing challenges stemming from colonisation and its effects. This includes discrimination, poverty, systemic removal, intergenerational trauma, dislocation from land and culture, and community disempowerment. To achieve equality, we must approach these challenges through a holistic approach, considering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children’s wellbeing, safety and development, recognising and embracing culture and the strength of our First Nations People.
