We are thrilled to announce that Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) will now be known to the world & the people we serve as “Global Refuge.” 🌍🎉
New name, same mission. We invite you to learn more: globalrefuge.org/identity
Passionate about helping nonprofit organizations, I specialize in crafting compelling stories that drive awareness, engagement, and sustainable impact. Let's amplify your cause together.
The new name Global Refuge says so much more in just two words, well done in that choice. It speaks straight to what the mission does and has been doing for the past 80+ years which is so needed now more than ever. Human centered organizations are essential to rise above political noise and bureaucracy that put lives at risk, literally. Well done everyone.
Keep telling and sharing the stories.

Dive deep into the complexities of refugee resettlement in 'Embracing Adversity Journey - Refugee Voices - Part 11: Current Issues and Controversies.' Join host Hans Sonnenberg as we tackle the heated political debates, impactful immigration policies, and the starkly divided public opinions that shape the landscape of refugee resettlement in America.
This thought-provoking episode explores the significant reductions in refugee admissions during the Trump administration, the consequences of policies like the travel ban, and the ongoing debate over how America should welcome those in need.
Engage with us as we advocate for fair and humane treatment of refugees, aiming to bring empathy and understanding to this critical issue. Don’t miss this penultimate episode of our series, and discover more in Hans’s book, "Embracing Adversity—A Life Torn and Rebuilt," available on Amazon.

I'm pleased to share an article I recently published in my personal capacity in the American Immigration Lawyers Association's Law Journal, discussing P-2 group designations in the US refugee #resettlement program.
The article:
- Documents lessons learned from current and past P-2 designations, most especially the Afghan and Iraqi P-2 programs, which have faced significant challenges in supporting their intended beneficiaries to resettle.
- Outlines situations where P-2 group designations are more/less likely to benefit a group of refugees.
- Suggests other ways to support groups of people facing persecution and crisis.
I hope it can be a useful resource to refugee communities and advocates!

Families belong together. Enough Said.
Our friends from Safe Passage International & British Refugee Council have made the following recommendations on how to fix the UK’s broken family reunion system 👉 https://lnkd.in/eergiMkP
1️⃣ Amend the Immigration Rules to remove the barriers to children joining refugee non-parent adult relatives in the UK.
2️⃣ Amend the Immigration Rules to allow refugee children in the UK to sponsor parents and siblings.
3️⃣ Open a pathway to resettle the family members of people evacuated under Pathway 1 of the Afghan Citizens’ Resettlement Scheme (ACRS) by June 2024, as promised
4️⃣ Open a free pathway to allow Ukrainians with temporary status in the UK to sponsor their close family members, including their own children
5️⃣ Improve decision making so that by the end of September 2024, no refugee family reunion application is waiting longer than 12 weeks for a decision, in line with the Department’s service standard.
