Calculating a perfectly timed energy transition, if there is to be one, in which we masterfully reduced energy production in one area of the portfolio and replaced it with an exact incremental amount in another area is simply not possible. There will be two steps forward and occassionally one step backwards. A big part of the consumer energy transition will be the move to electric vehicles. In order for that to happen, people have to prefer electric vehicles over internal combustion engine powered vehicles. That can happen for a number of reasons, with likely the most successful one being a mechanism that makes these vehicles cheaper than other options. In Germany, we are finding out that reducing government subsidies will result in reduced purchasing.
