Want to be a better designer? Travel.
I recently returned from a trip to Prague, and it’s safe to say my design process has changed forever.
Prague is a city where history and modernity collide. From Gothic cathedrals to sleek contemporary buildings, every corner has a story to tell. I took an architectural tour that allowed me to see how design adapts over centuries, blending old-world charm with innovative solutions for modern needs.
One thing that stood out during this trip was how travel broadens your perspective as a designer. When immersed in a new environment, your approach to problem-solving shifts. You start thinking beyond your usual methods and begin to explore ideas influenced by cultural, historical, and aesthetic diversity.
While I missed out on Czech Design Week, I did witness the behind-the-scenes preparations. Just observing the creative energy in the city, from installations to artwork, was incredibly inspiring. It reminded me that great design isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about responding to the world around us and finding creative solutions to everyday challenges.
If you’re a designer, I can’t stress enough the importance of travel. It’s not just about exploring new places—it’s about feeding your creativity, challenging your thinking, and finding new ways to solve problems.
Where’s your next trip?
