As leaders, there is a lot we can learn from Simone Biles. She is undeniably the leader of the US women’s Olympic gymnastics team. 1) The importance of recognizing and addressing your limits. Many people tout leaning into your strengths. While that is importance for deciding what roles are most suitable for you to succeed (e.g. Simone chose gymnastics over swimming), once you have selected a role, to become truly excellent, we have to recognize and address what is holding us back. Simone took two years off from gymnastics to work on strengthening her mental fitness and it paid off. 2) How to lift others up. She is the GOAT of gymnastics but instead bowed to a competitor. This can only be done from a place of self-confidence AND humility. #leadership #mentalhealth #olympics

As an HR leader and coach to C-suite executives, I resonate with this post from Hacking HR and JB Pritzkers speech asserting that the smartest person in the room is often the kindest. Throughout HR my career, I have encountered leaders who proudly proclaim themselves as “the smartest” in their organization. While their impressive education and credentials may justify such claims, their actions and attitudes often betray a different reality. Cruelty and toxicity in leadership erode respect and undermine the value one brings to the table. I’m honored for being witness to those who have unlocked this misconception for themselves doing the work . Leadership is about more than just intelligence.
