No team is perfect - and certainly not perfect all the time. What I look for in successful teams is the ability for anyone, no matter their rank on the team, to openly (and without fear) admit their mistakes. We have all been there - we are moving too fast on something and make an error that causes major downstream impacts to our team or our clients. How many of you could honestly say that you would be comfortable admitting this mistake openly to your team, especially if there is a chance no one would know it was you? Even if you knew it would be for the betterment of the team, would you choose to be vulnerable or would you hide your misstep in hopes that no one would notice? Vulnerability based trust isn't saying to your team, "I know you won't steal my wallet when I walk away from my desk" - it's about being comfortable in your own skin on your team and being ok with looking imperfect. This is especially important for leaders of teams as your people looks to you as an example. If you are willing to be vulnerable, they are far more likely to do the same. Everyone is human - we all make mistakes. Are you on a team where you would be willing to be vulnerable and open about your mistakes?
Is Your Team a Superhero Squad or a Bumbling Brigade? The strength of your team can make or break your success. Have you ever wondered if your team is as invincible as it could be? According to Patrick Lencioni’s The Five Dysfunctions of a Team model, many teams struggle with issues like Trust, Conflict, Commitment, Accountability, and Results. Any of these dysfunctions can severely hamper productivity and cohesion within an organization. Here are some practical solutions to overcome these challenges: 1: Build Trust: Encourage open communication and vulnerability among team members. This means creating a safe space for everyone to admit mistakes and seek help. 2: Embrace Healthy Conflict: Foster an environment where passionate, unfiltered debates around ideas are welcomed. This helps ensure diverse viewpoints are considered. 3: Ensure Commitment: Drive collective buy-in by involving everyone in the decision-making process. This deepens each member’s commitment to the team's objectives. 4: Promote Accountability: Cultivate a culture where team members hold each other accountable. This keeps the team aligned and focused on common goals. 5: Focus on Results: Prioritize collective outcomes over individual aspirations to achieve remarkable results. By addressing these areas, your team can transform into a powerful unit that achieves extraordinary results. In my recent discussion with stakeholders, a common question that emerged is: "How can we effectively promote employee ownership within our teams?" This question highlights the significance of cultivating a culture where team members are empowered to take ownership and accountability for their work. Encouraging employee ownership not only inspires individuals to seize opportunities but also fosters a sense of responsibility for achieving excellence, even in collaborative endeavors. However, there's a caveat to consider. In our efforts to empower team members with ownership and autonomy, we must be cautious not to distance ourselves too much. Overlooking their need for guidance and support can lead to feelings of neglect rather than empowerment. To address this, here are some key strategies: 1. Set Clear Goals and Define Success: Ensure that everyone understands the objectives and success criteria before delegating tasks. This clarity empowers team members to take ownership of their responsibilities. 2. Provide Support, Not Solutions: Equip your team with the necessary tools and resources to solve problems independently. Act as a guide rather than providing all the answers, fostering their problem-solving skills and confidence. 3. Follow Up and Offer Feedback: Regularly check in on their progress and provide constructive feedback. This demonstrates your investment in their growth and development. 4. Stay Informed and Recognize Achievements: Stay updated on their progress and accomplishments. Celebrate their successes to boost morale and motivation. By implementing these strategies, we can create a culture of ownership that motivates and empowers team members to excel. #EmployeeOwnership #LeadershipDevelopment #TeamEmpowerment #SuccessMindset

Team Building and Leadership Development Trainer & Coach | Workplace Investigator | Working Genius™ Certified Facilitator
The Simple Science of Building a High Performing Team doesn’t require a fancy degree or more than a 20-minute read to understand fully. Just like “Eat More Vegetables,” “Exercise More,” the practices needed are uncomplicated and available to all. But getting started and sticking to it. That’s the rub. Because just like parenting with love and changing your health, this stuff is hard to do. It takes humility, courage, commitment and sacrifice, especially when it’s a tough day. It’s easier to say “I’ll get to that next week,” hoping maybe next week the problem will be gone or it just won’t feel so heavy. Good luck with that approach! 😀 If getting started or being consistent is what’s blocking your way, tell me about it. I’d love to read your experiences in the comments below. #thefivedysfunctionsofateam #teambuilding #productiveteams #leadershipdevelopment
