In developing new creative for its Shelter Adoption Campaign, the Ad Council partnered with The Humane Society of the United States and Maddie's Fund. To gauge the campaign's success, the Ad Council consulted with ThinkNow, who created a study assessing awareness, attitudes, and behaviors among U.S. adults. A system failing moms and babies is a system failing everyone. Maternal and infant health is fundamental to all health, yet the U.S. is one of the most dangerous developed nations to give birth in. We not doing enough to prioritize maternal and infant health. Today, March of Dimes released its annual Report Card, providing a grade to the U.S., all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico based on its preterm birth rate and evaluating key maternal and infant health indicators. They're doing incredible work to combat hunger, and I'm honored to be part of this movement. Thao's words hit home for me because I know firsthand the impact of food assistance programs like SNAP. As a parent, SNAP has been a crucial lifeline during tough times, especially amidst the challenges of COVID-19. From navigating job uncertainty to juggling childcare responsibilities, SNAP has helped ensure that my child and I have enough to eat, even when times were tough. But my story is just one of many. There are countless individuals and families facing similar struggles, and that's why I'm passionate about raising awareness and advocating for change. As an organization dedicated to improving the maternal experiences of Black women, our mission has always been rooted in the belief that Black mothers deserve access to safe and equitable healthcare. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of Black mothers and families. Your support brings us one step closer to eliminating the disparities in maternal healthcare. With the funds raised, we plan to: 1. Bail out more deserving Mommas on Mother's Day, ensuring they spend this special day surrounded by loved ones and free from the burden of incarceration. 2. Expand the scope and reach of our childbirth education webinars, empowering more Black mothers with the knowledge and resources they require for a safe and joyful childbirth experience. 3. Increase awareness about the Black Maternal Health crisis through community engagement initiatives, advocacy programs, and educational campaigns. We aim to dispel misconceptions, challenge biases, and bring about systemic change. 4. Invest in the training and mentorship of additional community-based Doulas, who play a crucial role in supporting and advocating for Black mothers during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. As we enter the final week of the 2024 Builders for Babies diaper drive, I wanted to ask for your continued support. Although it may be too late to host a diaper drive, it isn't too late to contribute toward our goal of 250,000 diapers. We have partnered this year with a private label wholesaler and your tax-deductible contribution would go towards filling a tractor trailer with diapers for distribution to the over 30 participating non-profits in the DMV. A few quick reminders on the importance of this drive:  - Since 2018, HomeAid National Capital Region has collected over 750,000 diapers and wipes, delivering them to over 30 local nonprofit partners.  - Diapers and wipes cannot be purchased using Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or Women, Infants and Children (WIC).  - Babies who remain in soiled diapers for too long are exposed to potential health risks.  - Five million babies and toddlers live in poor and low-income families. Diaper need is a hidden consequence of poverty.  - Households experiencing diaper needs are on average short 50 diapers per month.  - Daycare facilities require that parents provide diapers. If they don’t have enough diapers that means no daycare, no work, and no paycheck.  - Newborns use up to 12 diapers per day, at a cost of over $100 per month per baby - a cost many families cannot afford. Anything that you could do to support this great cause would be appreciated.
