We're Hiring!
And it's for one of my favorite teams and roles in the organization and with one of the best talent nurturers I've ever worked with - Robert Kluchko! Our portfolio associates are responsible for ensuring that all of our investment ideas are implemented into client portfolios. It's a fantastic entry into the industry, where you learn about markets, securities, taxes, asset allocation, and building/implementing scalable trading solutions.
When I interview candidates, the best question I'm asked is, "What makes someone successful in the role?"
My answer is twofold:
1) To succeed IN the role, attention to detail is paramount. Mistakes have very quantifiable costs (trading errors).
2) To be successful BEYOND the role, curiosity is key. It warms my heart when I get questions from our team about "Why are we buying/selling that security?" or "Why did we delay that sale for a client?" (typically taxes), or "Why does our process include this step and what if we tried something else instead?" When they ask "why," they signal that they're paying attention and using their time in the role to prepare for the next one. It also helps us identify with them what that next role might be.
Our favorite reason for turnover is that we've helped someone identify their "zone of genius," and they're ready to move. In addition to progression within the team to be implementation subject matter experts, we've had PAs go on to be advisors, researchers, and data analysts. We always hope that's internal. However, even if it's external, we call it a win if they leave us better than they came to us and happily leave the door open for their return.
