Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania’s Post

Second Chance Month was first recognized in 2017 as an opportunity to assist individuals, communities, and organizations across the United States in seeing the importance of supporting safe and successful reentry. This April, Goodwill celebrates Second Chance Month and the importance of giving individuals the tools and support they need to reintegrate into society successfully. Did you know? According to Prison Fellowship, approximately 1 in 3 adults in the U.S. has a criminal record. Goodwill's Reintegration Department provides support to individuals who are reentering their communities after incarceration to find employment, education, housing, and more. Mike Olack, Director of Reintegration, says, "95% of all incarcerated individuals will eventually be released. We at Goodwill SWPA, take our personal and societal responsibility to assist these individuals’ reentry into society seriously. Assisting reentrants with resources such as basic life needs, housing, case management, education, training, employment, and family services allows them an honest opportunity to successfully reintegrate with their families, communities, and society." As an organization that strives to empower people, Goodwill aims to make our programs and services accessible to individuals reentering society. Whether they need a GED, a place to stay, parenting support, help with paying bills, or a job, Goodwill is able to open the door to support and equitable opportunities. When we can support and empower someone who is justice-involved, we also positively impact their support system and the communities where they live.
