😱 Boeing is “Unbelievable”!” 😱 We get to read some news that give us the impression that safety is not Boeing’s priority: 1) The article below Quote: The head of the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said on Wednesday investigators still do not know who worked on a Boeing 737 Max 9 door plug involved in a January 5 Alaska Airlines mid-air emergency and that video footage was overwritten. Good Point Erika! Aircraft manufactures (Boeing, Airbus) design and build the aircraft. They also provide all of the approved technical publications required as well as the training needed to operate and maintain the aircraft in an airworthy condition. After that it's on the owner/operators to continue that trend. The operators have a responsibility to the FAA and the public they serve to follow the law and the program guidelines to ensure aircraft take off from one location and land safely at the other end in the same condition. That means participating in the periodic maintenance cycle. Take the aircraft out of service to perform maintenance when it's due. Do not deviate from the scheduled inspection times or dates. Do the maintenance right when it's due and follow your tech data to letter and teach your people to do the same. As to the slides, maybe these panels need to be inspected at a more frequent interval. After all opening and closing the door, arming and de-arming the door and slides, and just normal operations beat the "STUFF" out of these doors. It might take a bit more time away from operations, but it might serve to make them last longer and prevent an unintentional separation from the aircraft. Just a thought.

By paralleling the ongoing accident investigation with a new criminal probe, the U.S. Department of Justice is actually impeding the government's ability to get to the bottom of the Alaska Air door plug incident, and with no offsetting benefit. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are the agencies primarily in charge of investigating aviation accidents. Their objectives are to figure out why something bad happened and then take steps to make sure it doesn't happen again. Essential to their success over the past few decades, and to the safest period in the history of powered flight, is a widely embraced "just culture" approach to the investigation of accidents and other mishaps in aviation. The basic idea is that nobody should be worried about getting punished for telling the truth, unless the conduct uncovered rises to the level of reckless endangerment. Once people with useful information hear “anything you say can be used against you,” the open sharing of information upon which today’s spectacular safety record depends just dries up. The Justice Department should let the experts do their work without this unnecessary and counterproductive interference.

So, maybe it wasn't an accident?! Just kidding. Having a slide fall off a 30 year old airplane is not a Boeing problem That's a maintenance issue. Please let the lawyer know that airplane evacuation slides are inspected, re-tested, re-packed, and re-installed every three years, and airlines deploy at least one slide each year on each aircraft. The current reputational battle Boeing is faced with is a lesson for brands that you don’t ‘PR’ your way out of reputational damage. Boeing has been under fire over safety concerns as its planes continue to face several issues. From the time two of its 737 Max planes crashed due to software related issues , killing hundreds of people in the process , Boeing has been battling to convince the world about their commitment to safety. That commitment has been undone by recent incidences of its planes having issues such as an exit door blowing off mid flight from a brand new 737 Max belonging to Alaska Airlines, and recently a wheel fell of another Boeing plane belonging to United Airlines. All of this has put Boeing in a spot of bother , compounded by investigations into its safety by the Federal Aviation Administration. The only way for Boeing to redeem its reputation is to be transparent and open enough about its processes that seem to have prioritised profit over safety as whistleblower reports have indicated. No PR spin can cure a life and death issue such as flight safety. Reputation, no matter the industry, is the currency and glue for a winning brand. When it’s lost , don’t be clever, be humble, be vulnerable and address the root causes in an open and transparent manner to regain the lost trust. #brandmanagement #brandreputation

The result is a fatigued, distracted and demoralized work force that is increasingly prone to making mistakes, according to a Times investigation. The findings are based on interviews with more than 70 current and former air traffic controllers, pilots and federal officials, as well as thousands of pages of federal safety reports and internal F.A.A. records that The Times obtained. While the U.S. airspace is remarkably safe, potentially dangerous close calls have been happening, on average, multiple times a week this year, The Times reported in August. Some controllers say they fear that a deadly crash is inevitable.#seeingmachines In the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, there were 503 air traffic control lapses that the F.A.A. preliminarily categorized as “significant,” 65 percent more than in the prior year, according to internal agency reports reviewed by The Times.
