What type of people do startups hire? I'll try and break it down: 1. Most large companies don't prepare you to work at a startup. For example, a buddy from Goldman Sachs recently applied, and I explained that nothing I achieved at GS was applicable to Databento. 2. Large company KPIs and achievements (e.g. managing a team) don't translate well to startups. In a startup, everyone is an IC. 3. A "limited budget" at a large company is nowhere near the tiny budget that a startup has to deal with. At a large company, you're rewarded for being a specialist and staying in your lane. At a startup, you're rewarded for going out of your lane, wearing multiple hats, and taking ownership. 1. Take extreme ownership. 2. Focus. I can't even tell you how many times we get job candidates (and investors) who suggest we start a completely different, irrelevant, unrealistic business. 3. Bring in revenue. We're not roleplaying here. Lots of people talk the talk but can't deliver actual results. In this economy, most startups can't afford to have people who don't move the needle. Edit: Should've clarified: It's not that startups are harder or better. It's that every company has a lifecycle, and where you hop onboard determines your tasks, goals, culture, and more. So instead of hiring from the incumbent, many startups hire people from other startups, even if it's a completely different industry.

I Connect Project Professionals and Top Solar & Wind Energy Companies - German, Russian & English Speaking
Many project developers and engineers I talk to ask me for advice about what type of company they should choose. A startup or a multi-national giant? Here's my list of pros for each: Startups: - Can be a good option if you're starting out your career or are unsure what you would like to specialise in, as you gain experience across lots of different areas fast. - Often offer a lot of autonomy and flexibility - A great way to build relationships with inspiring, entrepreneurial founders Multi-national giant: - Opportunity to work on larger-scale international projects - Helpful for career development due to learning budgets and proximity to many experienced people - Exposure to a greater variety of tooling and technology. Both options have so many great pros! That's why I help you figure out which option is best suited to your specific preferences. Follow me to hear about what I think are the cons for each option next week! #StartUp #Multinational #Hiring #JobSelection

The smart you are the smarter you work 👇🏻 . . . Imagine two startups. One hires a team of experienced workers who can flawlessly execute existing plans. The other recruits talented individuals with fresh perspectives and a hunger to innovate. The first startup might see steady progress, but struggle to adapt to changing markets or seize new opportunities. The second startup, with its team of creative minds, will be constantly exploring new ideas, identifying problems before they arise, and developing solutions that disrupt the industry. So, when building your startup team, focus on these qualities: 1️⃣ Intellectual curiosity: They should be eager to learn and explore new ideas. 2️⃣ Problem-solving skills: They can identify challenges and develop innovative solutions. 3️⃣ Strong communication: They can effectively share ideas and collaborate with others. 4️⃣ Passion and drive: They are genuinely excited about your mission and vision. By hiring these "smart people" 🧑💻 who can take initiative and contribute their unique perspectives, you'll be well on your way to building a team that drives success for your startup. #teamwork #innovation #culture #startup #hire #motivation
