Founder / Chairman - Social Media Research Institute - Creator of Social Media First Aid & Social Media Harm Reduction
Uniting social media researchers is a challenging endeavor due to an unspoken division within the academic sphere. The Social Media Research Institute stands out as one of the few organizations genuinely committed to collaboration. This commitment goes beyond obligatory directives from grants or universities; it reflects a sincere drive to explore diverse perspectives and anticipate the future. In the end, all paths converge on the common goal of Social Media Harm Reduction. Whether in agreement or not, every advocate ultimately supports the idea of minimizing harm caused by social media. This is the underlying reality.

Co-Founder & CMO @ Steadiwear | Empowering Hand Tremor Sufferers with Innovative Technology | MBA | Mentor
Yesterday, I was at The Forge McMaster for another round of programming as part of the #LiONSLAIR pitch competition. We did some media training for press, radio, TV & even touched on some pointers for social media too. 💡 Here are some my top 5 takeaways from the session 📣: ✅️ Simple messages travel further, faster & more accurately. They also inspire trust ✅️ For online messaging, make sure to say: Click to learn more rather than learn more by clicking ✅️ For press articles & SEO, keep the Passive sentences under 10%, use Yoast SEO to optimize your Flesch Reading ease & most importantly, maintain a Flesh Kincaid grade level 5. Keep your writing to 15-20 words in a sentence ✅️ If the media calls for an interview, always ask for a break. Breathe & Focus then call back & tell your story. If asked, do you have anything else to add, always reiterate your key points ✅️ No matter what channel you are using remember to use plain language & build credibility through your work Big thanks to the staff, presenter and panel including @andrea montgomery apr of Redbrick Communications (whom I am having trouble tagging 😄) & Josie Cassano Rizzuti, MCM, APR, CMP® Alexandria Anderson, MA of the Canadian Public Relations Society

What if you rewrote your bio to reflect the purpose and meaning of your work, and not your outward status? That's our challenge. Julia Mossbridge, PhD and I demonstrate how this can be done in our latest video, and you can catch that here. https://lnkd.in/eGG9Fadt
