DAY 50 Post reminder, two more to go 😀 Every 10 days of my challenge I post a quick reminder of what I'm doing, why I'm doing it and letting people know they can donate. It's day 50 of running 70 days straight to celebrate 70 years of the amazing work of the Samaritans and try raise a few quid in the process to help. Doing this post is poignant as without charities and organisation such as the Samaritans, I might not of being able to write this and sadly my story isn't rare. Each year 1 in 4 of us experience mental health challenges and sadly it's the biggest killer of those aged between 20-34 in the UK. In recent years incidences of mental ill health has risen due to material factors such as austerity, Covid -19 and the cost of living crisis. Every 10 seconds the Samaritans receives a call from somebody struggling, and without the 23,000 volunteers who answer these calls more lives would be lost. So much more needs to be done to address the way we approach mental health, the funding given to services to deal with the crisis, and the conditions leading to these issues. Until this is done, charities like the Samaritans are increasingly stretched and support far beyond their weight thanks to generous individuals who donate time, money and expertise.
