Visiting the local Longo's this morning, which opened last July and it is quite rare to see this level of scaling on a #concrete curb that's just over a year old. 💡This suggests a few things: 1. The curb was likely hand-placed. Curb machine concrete typically has a lower water-to-cementitious materials ratio, making it less prone to scaling this quickly. 2. Water may have been added to the surface to aid in finishing. 3. Improper curing might have been a factor. Poor practices in placing, finishing, and curing concrete flatwork are far too common today, resulting in less durable and resilient infrastructure. We need to do better!
