I enjoyed Amy Hodler's GraphGeeks talk today, "Patterns of Power: Uncovering Control Points to Influence Outcomes." I won't give away any of the major points (definitely give this talk a listen directly), but I really liked how she made it very practical in terms of not just understanding graph structures but also how you can actually use them to take action. The fact that the talk focuses on power dynamics only makes it even more relevant for all of us. 🤗 Some interesting pieces of information to consider: - With graphs, you can infer meaning with structure. - Centrality is used for finding influential entities and understanding the power dynamics. - There are many centrality algorithms, which tells me that power is complicated, but well-studied. Knowledge is power. - You have the choice to use your powers for good (e.g. building community for voting, encouraging equal opportunity in the workplace, trade, etc.)...or not 🤔 Thanks for spending the time to do this for the community, Amy Hodler and Dennis Irorere, and to everyone who joined! This talk has something for everyone from a graph newbie to a graph guru. (screenshot from one of Amy's GraphGeeks slides today during the webinar - and why everyone should care about network science!) 🔗 GraphGeeks site with Discord: https://lnkd.in/gzwVcjzG #networkscience #graphanalytics #centrality #datascience
