We’re excited to have Nicole Lampsa, COO of Honua Hawaiian Skincare, as the moderator for our virtual panel discussion on July 18th at 1 PM ET! Nicole is an entrepreneur, startup advisor, avid yogi, and amateur creative. In her current position as COO of Honua Hawaiian Skincare, she leads operations, which means she may be fine-tuning a new formula one day, ensuring the latest products make it to stores and e-commerce sites the next day, or planning one of Honua’s annual sustainability events another day. Before making the career jump to consumer and beauty, Nicole was an investment banker and passionate renewable energy and sustainability devotee, holding senior positions at Citigroup, Inc. and SolarCity/Tesla. She recently relocated from San Francisco, California, to the island of Puerto Rico so can often be found exploring a different corner (or mountain) of the tropical paradise. She keeps very busy as a mom to two active kids and is usually found planning their next adventure. Vegpreneur NYC Event: Sustainability Meets Smart Business! I had an incredible experience at the VEGPRENEUR NYC event moderated by my friend Noah Hyams (huge thanks for the invite!). This event, sponsored by Shopify, brought together early-stage sustainable startups – exactly the kind of innovation I love to see! It reignited my passion for sustainability, reminding me of my old ecology research days. Sustainability is a multi-faceted beast! The showcased brands covered a wide range – from innovative skincare from Seadrop Skincare to delicious plant-based eats from Full of Beans Kitchen (founded by Ecuadorians!). Each company demonstrated how environmental and financial sustainability can go hand-in-hand. While the focus at Vegpreneur wasn't deep dives into technology, there were interesting discussions around how online tools can be leveraged. The impact of social media and digital marketing on client conversion rates and overall marketing strategies. This highlights a key need: events that delve into the intersection of data, technology, and scaling social impact businesses. Imagine a conference dedicated to exploring how tech can be used to magnify the positive influence of sustainable companies! That would be an incredibly valuable resource. Fortunately this past week's Women in Tech Global Conference did have few sessions on technology and sustainability. Key Takeaways: - Lean Processes: These companies focus on minimizing waste and maximize resource utilization across the entire value chain. Data can help identify areas for improvement. - Community Collaboration: Events like this foster knowledge-sharing and innovation within the sustainable business ecosystem. - Sustainability & Scale: Tracking environmental and social impact alongside financial metrics is key for optimizing business operations and maximizing positive impact. Want to learn further about scaling & optimizing sustainability business via data? Let me know. I'm passionate about this topic and I'm planning a post to explore how technology can be leveraged to achieve this. In the meantime, you can learn more about the amazing products through Earth Pass and the participating brands: Pleese Cheese, Planet Bake, Fabalish, Culiraw , Scott's Protein Balls, Full of Beans Kitchen, and Fulton. #Sustainability #EarlyStageStartups #SustainableBusiness #TechForGood #Vegan #businessintelligence #BI P.S. Shoutout to the incredible speakers: Libie Motchan (Fulton), Narell Vasquez (Full of Beans Kitchen), and Serena Advani (Seadrop Skincare). You're all rockstars!

💥 🅂🄾🄲🄸🄰🄻 🄸🄽🄽🄾🅅🄰🅃🄸🄾🄽: 🄳🄸🅂🅁🅄🄿🅃🄸🄽🄶 🄵🄾🅁 🄰 🄱🄴🅃🅃🄴🅁 🅆🄾🅁🄻🄳 💥 🌍 #SocialInnovation #DisruptingForABetterWorld 👩💼 Hey #LinkedInCommunity! Today, I want to talk about the powerful concept of social innovation, and how it is reshaping businesses and society for the better. ✨ Social innovation is not just about creating new products or services; it is about finding creative solutions to address pressing social and environmental issues. It involves disrupting traditional business models and embracing new approaches to make a positive impact. 🌱 One great example of social innovation is the company Patagonia They recognized the environmental impact of the fashion industry and took steps to minimize it. By creating sustainable outdoor apparel and encouraging customers to buy less but buy better quality products, Patagonia has been disrupting the fast fashion industry and advocating for a more sustainable future. 📚 Another inspiring example is TOMS Shoes, which pioneered the "One for One" model. For every pair of shoes sold, TOMS donates a pair to a child in need. By integrating social responsibility into their business model, TOMS has created a movement and impacted millions of lives around the world. 🔍 Social innovation can also occur within organizations by promoting diversity and inclusion, fostering employee well-being, and implementing sustainable practices. A prime example is the global tech giant, Salesforce. They have committed to achieving a net-zero carbon footprint and have made significant investments in renewable energy to combat climate change. 🚀 By embracing social innovation, businesses have the opportunity to not only create a positive change but also build a competitive edge. Customers and employees are increasingly drawn to companies that align with their values and contribute to a better world. 💡 So, let's encourage more organizations to embrace social innovation! Together, we can disrupt the status quo and create a more sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous future. In today's changing business world, the concept of "sustainability" has become more than a trendy term—it's now a crucial factor for long-term success. 🌱 Transitioning from discussing sustainability to embodying it in our practices starts with recognizing how our actions affect the environment and committing to making real changes. Many companies struggle to incorporate sustainability into their operations, facing challenges in minimizing their impact and underestimating its effects on their business operations and reputation. The need for action is more pressing than ever. With consumers becoming increasingly conscious and regulations tightening, businesses that don't embrace sustainable practices risk falling losing customer trust and encountering hurdles. It's not about reducing harm but adding value through accountability and innovation. Here are three actionable steps your company can implement today to pave the path toward a future; 1️⃣ Evaluate and Reduce Your Environmental Impact: Delve into your business processes to pinpoint areas with environmental consequences. By introducing energy methods, cutting down on waste, and adopting energy sources, you can substantially decrease your environmental footprint. 2️⃣ Collaborate with Suppliers and Use Eco-friendly Materials: The strength of the chain lies in its link. Working closely with suppliers who prioritize sustainability is key to ensuring that your business's core values resonate throughout your supply chain, bolstering your brand's reputation and sustainability profile. Openly sharing your sustainability efforts is crucial for building trust with stakeholders. Transparent communication about your commitment to sustainability fosters a sense of community and encourages others to follow suit. Take inspiration from companies like Patagonia, which has seamlessly woven sustainability into its business framework. Through a focus on sourcing, reducing impact, and transparent reporting on its initiatives, Patagonia has not only earned respect from consumers but has also experienced significant business growth. 🌿 How is your business contributing to the environment? Share your initiatives. Let's motivate each other towards a more eco-friendly future. Stay tuned for insights on conscious business practices. ------------ I'm Michael, and I'm leading the way in integrating sustainability into businesses for a brighter tomorrow. #SustainableBusiness, #GreenInnovation, #EcoEntrepreneurship, #LeadersForChange #CreateFutureToday

Create businesses that move people & planet forward | Strategy | Innovation | Transformation | Venture building
🤔 Can growth and sustainability go hand in hand 📈 🌎 In today's business world, we face a challenging contradiction at the heart of our growth strategies. On one hand, economic growth is essential for any business looking to succeed. It's a fundamental part of how we measure success through indicators like profit margins, sales, asset values, market share, and various financial metrics. These are the benchmarks for success in both the commercial sector and, increasingly, within public and non-profit organizations. Yet, there's a significant catch. This pursuit of continuous growth is at odds with the ecological systems that underpin stable societies and, by extension, stable businesses. The concept of "the growth enigma," highlights a critical contradiction. No physical, biological, or social system can grow indefinitely. Over the past fifty years, "limits to growth" studies have consistently shown the risks associated with policies focused on exponential growth. An impressive example of this paradox in action is the marketing campaign by Patagonia, a California-based clothing company. In a bold move, they advertised one of their best-selling jackets with the tagline "Don't Buy This Jacket," urging consumers to think twice before making a purchase. This campaign underscores the tensions businesses face in striving for economic growth while promoting sustainable consumption. Patagonia's approach to marketing, which encourages consumers to buy less, is a powerful illustration of how companies navigate the complex terrain of balancing economic ambitions with social and environmental responsibilities. It's a reminder that rethinking our growth strategies is necessary and an opportunity to forge a path toward more sustainable and resilient business practices. In today's rapidly evolving business landscape, purpose is no longer just a buzzword - it's a critical driver of success. This Fast Company article highlights the importance of creating #purposedriven businesses, and I couldn't agree more. There are many well known purpose-driven business including: • Patagonia where their mission is "We're in business to save our home planet" guides every decision. They've even transferred ownership to a trust and #nonprofit dedicated to fighting #climatechange. • SunGod combines performance, style, and sustainability. Their lifetime guarantee and repair program actively combat throwaway culture. • Ben & Jerry's is beyond ice cream, they're vocal advocates for #socialjustice, #racialequity, and #climateaction. • TOMS pioneered the "One for One" model, evolving to now dedicate a third of profits to #grassroots causes. While these global brands and many others often dominate discussions about purpose-driven businesses, but it's equally important to recognise that purposeful entrepreneurship isn't limited to large corporations. There are countless small, local businesses making significant impacts in their communities as well. Many small businesses are inherently purpose-driven, deeply rooted in their #localcommunities and committed to making a #positivedifference. By supporting these local, purpose-driven businesses, we, as consumers, can contribute to positive change in our own communities and help build more #sustainable, resilient local #economies. It's a reminder that making a difference doesn't always require global scale – sometimes, the most meaningful impact starts right at home. Creating a purpose-driven business isn't just good for the world—it's good for business. It attracts loyal customers, engaged employees, and can drive long-term growth. #purposedrivenbusiness #sustainability #corporateresponsibility

Vizan Giri and I are thrilled to see Terra Thread alongside industry leader VEJA in this Fast Company piece about the future of business (and discover some fun new ones like Falcon Coffees Ltd and Toast Ale USA!). Even at last week's B Lab U.S. & Canada Champions Retreat, we were reminded that we need to move beyond just performative acts of sustainability and impact to truly embedding these principles into our companies. Let's commit to the farmers, to the workers, and make long-term commitments to our supply chain partners, not one off collections. I think that's the future of business, and a more #regenerative partner. Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/gi-jrGUa Thanks to Esha Chhabra for continuing to champion regen business models. #sustainability #regenerative #regenerativebusiness #organic #organiccotton #bcorps #fashion #supplychains #fairtrade #regenerativeorganic
