2.4 MILLION PEOPLE UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency has estimated that a staggering 2.4 million people will be forcibly displaced in 2024. This is a 20% increase since last year, meaning that the refugee crisis is accelerating, and so must our efforts to combat it. That's: 2.4 million people in need of shelter. 2.4 million people in need of food. 2.4 million people in need of medical and social support. 2.4 million people in need of humanity. This problem is by no means an easy fix, but at Indigo we believe that small actions create a big impact. In 2023 we placed 334 volunteers who contributed to 26,857 days of volunteering for our wonderful charity partners who work tirelessly to provide essential aid and support to refugees across Europe. 👉Find out more about Indigo Volunteers, and what you can do to make a difference in the lives of refugees: https://lnkd.in/eixGmTEB

Interim CEO at Indigo Volunteers, working with businesses to meet their CSR goals and encouraging staff engagement.
Yesterday marked the end of #RefugeeWeek. But as we return to our daily routines on Linkedin, let's remember that our commitment to supporting refugees should extend beyond just one week each year. At Indigo Volunteers, we believe in the power of ongoing solidarity. The challenges faced by refugees don't vanish after a week of awareness. Their journey to rebuild their lives demands consistent support, understanding, and compassion. It’s inspiring to witness the incredible work our partners do to support refugees and to be part of the change that makes this possible. So before we get caught up in meetings, schedules, and commutes, let's take a moment to pledge our continued support for refugees. Let's continue to: 👋 Extend our warmth and hospitality: Open our communities and hearts to those seeking a new home. ⚖ Advocate for sustainable solutions: Work towards long-term policies that support refugees and their integration. 🤝 Promote inclusivity: Foster environments where refugees can thrive and contribute to our global society. 📱 Spread awareness: Share stories and information to keep the conversation about refugees alive and impactful. 💙 Volunteer our time and skills: See how you can volunteer through Indigo to help refugees. 💲 Donate: Contribute to organisations like Indigo who are providing essential services and resources to refugees: https://lnkd.in/dm5ZeVpt Even the smallest actions can help create a world where every refugee feels welcomed and supported.

I am incredibly proud of my daughter, Julia Capasso who visited El Paso and witnessed firsthand the heartbreaking challenges faced by the immigrant children at the border. Moved by their incredible stories and struggles, she has launched a GoFundMe campaign to support these families in need. If you can, please consider supporting it by contributing and sharing. https://gofund.me/871042ac

Today, we were honoured to contribute to a DG NEAR EU Neighborhood & Enlargement internal webinar on child protection and care reform in enlargement countries, along with our Lumos colleagues. Colleagues from Ukraine and Moldova, implementing the reform of the child care systems amidst recent crises, including the war in Ukraine and the subsequent inflow of refugees, shared their insights, and colleagues in Romania and Bulgaria discussed synergies between civil society and the EU supporting care reform in those countries. The EU accession process is a great opportunity to accelerate and promote care reform. These discussions unfold right after the 2023 Enlargement Report adoption, assessing the progress made by the Enlargement countries in aligning with the EU standards. #AlwaysFamiliesNeverOrphanages #SafeFromHarm #Charity #Support

A month ago, Hope and Homes for Children and Lumos had the pleasure to jointly present our reflections, technical insights and practical recommendations on how the EU can support the reform of the child care and protection systems in the context of EU accession process in a DG NEAR EU Neighborhood & Enlargement webinar. Child institutionalisation is a symptom of a care system that is not working. The EU played a vital role in supporting these reforms in previous accession countries, such as Romania and Bulgaria. Taking stock of these experiences and lessons learned is key to identifying components for the success of care reform in the enlargement countries. As Moldova and Ukraine embark on a new stage of the accession process and negotiations with the EU, we will continue our efforts to support and advocate for a comprehensive reform of the child care and protection systems in the context of EU enlargement. #AlwaysFamiliesNeverOrphanages 💛

Many communities are searching for ways to assist families and children within the migrant community. Here are some immediate steps you can take to offer aid and support: Adopt a Family: Consider booking a motel or hotel room for one to two weeks, or as long as you can afford financially, to help a family get the resources they need and enroll their children in school. Donate: Several organizations, like @serviciosdelaraza , @migrantcarecoalition , and @thebirdseedcollective, are working on the ground to provide aid. If you know of any other organizations, please send them our way and I will post them. Resources: 211colorado.org is an excellent source of information for those seeking assistance.
