Very interesting review about the possibilities of Digital Twins in type 1 diabetes. Via Digital Twins, the effects of different treatment decisions can be simulated in order to clarify treatment targets, make informed treatment decisions, and achieve personalized and precise therapies. Thus, it can facilitate the delivery of robust, precise, and effective medical services at a reduced cost, without any intervention on the part of the individual (apart from collecting data). Welldoc is pioneering the use of #AI to revolutionize diabetes management. Our groundbreaking general purpose transformer based CGM research represents a significant leap forward in predicting glucose levels for individuals living with both Type 1 and Type 2 #diabetes. In our clinical presentation at the Machine Learning for Healthcare (#MLHC) annual meeting this past weekend in Toronto, Welldoc shared the first study in a series that demonstrates Welldoc's novel methodology towards predicting future continuous glucose monitoring (#CGM) glucose levels with high accuracy. The poster presents Welldoc's state-of-the-art AI models, which can predict glucose trajectories at 30-, 60- and 120-minute intervals for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes populations with ~ 50% less root mean square error, when compared to existing benchmark studies. Welldoc's #GPT model, “CGM-GPT,” was trained only on CGM data sets from individuals living with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, and reflects the advanced opportunity to develop sophisticated large sensor models (LSM) by leveraging the vast data available via real-time sensors. We're committed to further refining our models by incorporating additional data sources and exploring expanded applications. Given that cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death globally, the potential of multimodal AI in enhancing disease risk assessment and stratification cannot be overstated. As the variety and volume of medical data expand, the capacity of human experts to review, verify, and classify this information is increasingly challenged. For patients, the data considered includes not only vital signs (such as blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, and temperature), laboratory values, medications, and imaging data from X-rays, MRIs, CT scans, and ultrasounds, but also pathology reports, medical histories (accessible from electronic health records or directly from patients), and specific symptoms. Additionally, sleep and physical activity data from wearable sensors, along with genome sequencing results, microbiome evaluations, and metabolomics analyses, offer a comprehensive picture that ideally would be analyzed in real time to guide prevention or treatment strategies. 𝐀𝐭 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐭, 𝐰𝐞 𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬' 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐬. However, integrating this information still requires the collaborative efforts of our medical and 'omics' teams to thoroughly evaluate the extensive data. We are optimistic about the future potential of multimodal AI to enhance personalized prevention and treatment strategies for cardiometabolic disease, and we are actively working towards this goal.
