While #UPI makes it quite easy to pay in restaurants, one issue I face is with the tip amount. Usually end up paying tip directly by cash or when I don't have change, pay entire amount by cash and use the resulting change. Two challenges exist from a customer's point of view - (a) don't want my VPA/mobile# to be known to the waiter (b) a minor nuisance of doing two UPI transactions. For (a), I think creating a named VPA helps - or we should've a regulation to mask the sender id for amounts less than say ₹500. Quick mindmap from a short walk below. Deliveroo, Just Eat Takeaway.com and Uber Eats to enhance security checks to prevent illegal working Deliveroo, Just Eat, and Uber Eats have joined forces with the UK government to enhance safety measures and prevent the exploitation of account sharing by workers. Representatives from the three food delivery giants held productive discussions with government officials at the Home Office in London, including Michael Tomlinson, the Minister for Countering Illegal Migration, and Minister Hollinrake, the Minister for Business and Trade. As a result of the meeting, all three companies have committed to implementing changes in their processes to ensure that substitute riders have legal authorization to work in the UK. Deliveroo has taken the lead by introducing a new substitute registration feature, which includes right-to-work checks, earlier this month. The companies will closely collaborate with the government to implement these new operating procedures effectively and address any emerging risks. Illegal working poses significant risks to consumers, undermines wage standards, and defrauds the taxpayer. Minister Michael Tomlinson emphasized the government's commitment to closing any loopholes that enable illegal working, stating that unchecked account sharing must be cracked down on. Minister Kevin Hollinrake expressed support for proactive businesses like Deliveroo, Just Eat, and Uber Eats, highlighting the importance of protecting consumers and fostering economic growth. A spokesperson for Deliveroo affirmed the company's dedication to strengthening controls to prevent platform misuse and highlighted their status as the first major platform to roll out direct right-to-work checks. Uber Eats also announced plans to introduce identity verification checks to ensure legitimate account usage. Just Eat reiterated their commitment to collaborating with industry and policymakers to develop solutions ensuring compliance with the law. The government's efforts to tackle illegal working align with broader initiatives aimed at safeguarding borders and combating abuse. Enforcement visits rose significantly last year, leading to a surge in arrests and returns of individuals with no legal right to be in the UK. A Disappointing Experience with Pizza Hut😡 Today was meant to be a special occasion: my father's birthday. Given his health issues over the past few months, we were eager to lift his spirits with a celebration at home. To make the day enjoyable for everyone, especially the kids, we ordered three medium-sized pizzas from Pizza Hut using their online app. However, what was supposed to be a joyful celebration quickly turned into a frustrating ordeal. Despite the payment being successfully deducted from my account, we received no confirmation or communication from Pizza Hut. After waiting anxiously, I checked the app only to find that no further action had been taken on our order. Attempts to contact Pizza Hut’s customer care proved futile, as most of the numbers were either unavailable or unresponsive. It took nearly 15-20 minutes before I finally reached someone at their call center. To my dismay, I was informed that a technical glitch had occurred, and no resolution could be provided. Even worse, when inquiring about a refund, I was told in a rather nonchalant manner that it would take another 3-4 days for the amount to be credited back, and no pizza could be delivered. This raises a critical question: who takes responsibility for ruining our special occasion? It is deeply disappointing to see a renowned brand like Pizza Hut fail not only in service delivery but also in customer care. The lack of accountability and the casual attitude towards resolving such issues is unacceptable. As customers, we expect more than just being charged high taxes; we deserve reliable service and timely resolutions. Such experiences undermine customer trust and loyalty. Last night I took a FREENOW in a European city. A man in his late sixties picked me up with an impeccable Mercedes. When I arrived at my destination, he asked me: 'how much do I charge you?' I told him: 'I don't know, whatever your taximeter says, I suppose.' He replied: 'Oh, it's the first time I've used a taxi app. I have been driving a taxi for 47 years, I am retiring on June 12th and my son encouraged me not to leave my profession without understanding how technology is transforming my sector' And after telling him how much I admired his curiosity and that I worked in the digital space, specifically at Just Eat Takeaway.com , he answered: 'Well, now I understand how a person who does not speak the local language and has never lived in this city can provide customers with a quality service, thanks to the app. It really is incredible. However, I have made a lot more money from my regular clients who pay me a lot of tips and, on top of that, no one commissions me. This new era is not for me'. Key takeaway(s): Disruption may come in slowly, but you cannot run away from it unless you actually quit. Having said that, bless the innate curiosity of our species, which will help us contain the problems derived from our increasingly dehumanized world.
