Gretchen Fuog’s Post

As a real estate marketer, one of my favorite rooms in a home is: The Dining Room. Why? It is a space where family and friends gather to eat food, celebrate moments and partake in laughter and each others company; there are so many fun ways to market it. Personally, dining rooms have been a place for me with many happy memories. I grew up in a household where we (my parents, my 4 siblings and I) sat around the dining table every night for dinner, eating and talking about our day. I have equally fond memories in my grandparents dining room (they lived a few miles away - how lucky was I?) where we celebrated birthdays, holidays, and just-because occasions with the extended family. As an adult, I still love sitting down with my family for a homecooked meal or going over to friends houses for dinner parties. Why do I bring this up? There have been multiple articles published this week about the "disappearance of the dining room from American homes". Some reasons are (highlighted in the articles below): - Homes are smaller - Affordability is at all time low - Other spaces, like home gyms, offices, larger bedrooms and walk-in closets, are more desired - More people than ever are living alone [and don't need the space] - People no longer partake in the pastime of hosting dinner parties ....the list goes on. While I understand all of the reasons, and most of the reasons have been part of architectural discussions the past few years, it does still make me a little sad and nostalgic that this space in the home is disappearing. Curious: If the cost/affordability wasn't a factor - would YOU use / want to have a dining room in your home? Or would you prefer to have the space for something else? There is no wrong answer! Just for fun - I found a few old photos: one is from 1997 and the other is from 2017; wonderful memories gathered 'round dining room tables. 😊 --- Articles: https://lnkd.in/eNiE7TUh https://lnkd.in/e7PjFjbS https://lnkd.in/eUeFqRHx

A space to gather round a table never goes out of style - I’ve seen the group congregate around a big kitchen island or put a table on a patio or the middle of an open concept living room - no formal dining room necessary to connect/share a meal with loved ones
