WHY is Cinco de Mayo celebrated in the United States?🇲🇽🥳 Whether you break out the chips, guacamole and tacos or enjoy a margarita during this year's Cinco de Mayo, the truth is that Cinco de Mayo means more than just enjoying Mexican cuisine. Have you ever wondered, “What does Cinco de Mayo mean?” According to Time, U.S. beer🍻 companies were looking to target their products to the growing Spanish-speaking population starting in the 1970s and 1980s.  The recent surge in popularity of Cinco de Mayo festivities has a lot to do with the increased marketing efforts of U.S. companies. This is how the holiday evolved into what we know today, although for some it is also seen as simply a day to be proud of Mexican heritage. The historical roots and commercialization of Cinco de Mayo are the reasons why Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in the United States, even more so than in the country of Mexico itself.
