We're highlighting our interns for National Intern Day! Bryce Mayden is our intern from Hanover College and has been working with our Economic Development team this summer. 1. What is your favorite project that you've worked on at 1si so far this summer? My favorite project was researching the local economy (i.e., real GDP throughout the last 20 years, unemployment rates, housing costs, etc.) 2. What is your most memorable experience from this summer? Our everyday conversations in the office have been the most memorable experiences this summer. 3. What are your hobbies outside of work/school? My big hobby outside of work/school is soccer; I love playing pickup, training on my own, and watching games on TV.

Big things are happening in the Jones College Supply Chain Management program! Congratulations to Dr. Richard Tarpey, new Director of the Center for Supply Chain Management and Sustainability! #supplychain #sustainability #supplychainmanagement
I am excited to be named the first Director of Middle Tennessee State University's Center for Supply Chain Management and Sustainability. We are working on two exciting programs for the Fall of 2025. · Synergy-Experience: providing students with real-world experience through internships and an innovative program where students work toward specific curriculum objectives in partnership with a project/work experience at a company. · Synergy-CollabLab: students collaborate with industry partners to solve real problems. This program brings students and industry partners together to analyze and solve challenges to find applicable and implementable solutions.

A few months ago, we spoke with Carla Kersey, Project Development Coordinator at Kentucky Educational Development Corporation, who supports HS students through project-based internships. Here's a highlight from our conversation: "Project Based Learning is so much more than hands-on experiences in the classroom; it's also about workforce development." Discover how PBL can enhance teaching and learning and contribute to vital workforce development in our PBL Spotlights: PBL in Career & Tech Education, where National Faculty members share their perspectives on PBL & CTE. I'll be honest, I don't know if this is typical or not - my gut says no - but this is clearly a company that truly believes each of those people is part of the San Francisco 49ers team. They don't play on the field, but this shows these individuals that you believe their work helped the team accomplish its goals. And while I could be wrong, something tells me they do more things like this that we don't hear about. #teamwork #leadership #teamdevelopment #culture
The San Francisco 49ers are using five planes to fly out 800+ full-time staff, interns, family and friends to Super Bowl LVIII today.

I should add that these are PAID internships. Not only does this make our internships accessible to those who can’t afford to work for free, there is a noticeable difference in the quality and consistency of their work over the span of the semester. It is a lot easier to give more to an organization when they are compensating you for your time. At the very least, I believe we need to be paying interns enough to cover the indirect expenses that come with a job (gas, meals, clothing, etc.).

HBCU courses often emphasize community engagement, leadership, and social justice, fostering a strong sense of cultural identity and pride among students. The curriculum typically includes general education requirements, major-specific courses, and opportunities for research, internships, and experiential learning. HBCUs are known for their supportive environments, smaller class sizes, and faculty dedicated to student success and mentorship. This unique combination helps students achieve academic excellence while preparing them for professional careers and civic involvement. 1.833.364.3422 (1.833.3NID-HCA)
