🥳 Successful finale – the Coffee Innovation Fund concludes more projects The Coffee Innovation Fund (CIF), active since 2019, has successfully concluded the second half of its second round. The fund had the goal of making coffee cultivation more profitable for smallholder farmers at the start of the coffee value chain. The projects of the fund were financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the INA which is part of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. ☕ Which concrete results did the projects achieve for participating smallholder farmers? In #uganda, #rwanda, and #kenya as part of the second half of the second round 12 innovative pilot projects got implemented. Through these around 7.000 smallholder farmers were reached directly. Since 2019 the coffee innovation fund supported a total of approximately 60.000 smallholders. Through innovative production and processing as well as through the development of digital applications market access was improved for 4.090 participants. Next to the main goal of making coffee cultivation more profitable, other aspects such as income diversification, digitalisation, value chains free from deforestation, environmental protection, marketing, and female empowerment were additional foci. Accordingly, around 40% of project participants were women. In spring 2024 the results from the CIF will be shared at our event “Four Years Coffee Innovation Fund – Results and Impacts”. Additionally, recipe books showcasing insights from the various projects will be published. Upon completion, they will be made public to ensure that the knowledge gained from the projects can be used in the future. The Coffee Innovation Fund cordially thanks all participants and partners for the valuable collaboration, their dedication, and the great time spent together.
