"Delving into the question, "What is the philosophy behind the soft techniques used in Tai Chi and Aikido?" we uncover a profound understanding of power derived from flexibility, flow, and harmony. Both Tai Chi and Aikido exemplify martial arts that embrace soft techniques, leveraging an opponent's energy rather than directly opposing it."

AIKIDO AND SELF-DEFENSE: THE HARMONY OF PROTECTION & COMPASSION Aikido, often celebrated as the "way of harmony," is a martial art that uniquely embodies the principles of self-defence without aggression. While it may not be as overtly combative as some other martial arts, Aikido offers a powerful and effective approach to self-defence that emphasizes blending with, rather than opposing, an attacker. In this article, we will explore the practical applications of Aikido in self-defence and how its principles can be adapted to real-world situations. #aikidoshudokan #aikidoshudokaninternational #aikido #joethambu #budo #martialarts https://lnkd.in/gyqhCSwq

𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐀̲𝐢̲𝐤̲𝐢̲𝐝̲𝐨̲? It's not just a martial art; it's a philosophy that can help resolve conflict. In dealing with conflict, you can apply Aikido principles by: 1. 𝑼𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒏'𝒔 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆: Like in Aikido, where you anticipate your opponent's movements, in a conflict, try to understand the other person's feelings and needs. 2. 𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒑𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈, 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈: Aikido teaches to stay calm and centered. In a conflict, take a moment to breathe and respond thoughtfully instead of reacting impulsively. 3. 𝑭𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒐𝒏 𝒈𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅: Aikido seeks harmony; in conflict, look for common goals or interests to find a solution that benefits both parties. 4. 𝑹𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒏𝒆𝒈𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒈𝒚: Just as Aikido redirects an opponent's energy, in a conflict, try to redirect negative emotions into constructive dialogue. 5. 𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒔: Aikido teaches respect for your partner's space; in a conflict, respect the other person's boundaries and feelings. 𝑨𝒍𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖'𝒓𝒆 𝒑𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒓 𝒂𝒕 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒐𝒏𝒆, 𝒚𝒐𝒖'𝒗𝒆 𝒈𝒐𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒆𝒆 𝒑𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝒂𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒇. Next time you face conflict, consider the Aikido approach: 𝐮̲𝐧̲𝐝̲𝐞̲𝐫̲𝐬̲𝐭̲𝐚̲𝐧̲𝐝̲𝐢̲𝐧̲𝐠̲,̲ ̲𝐜̲𝐚̲𝐥̲𝐦̲𝐧̲𝐞̲𝐬̲𝐬̲,̲ ̲𝐚̲𝐧̲𝐝̲ ̲𝐫̲𝐞̲𝐬̲𝐩̲𝐞̲𝐜̲𝐭̲.̲ #NonviolentCommunication #Aikido #ConflictResolution #Empathy #Harmony #Compassion #Mindfulness

Why Aikido is essential for the world today, more than ever! (part 1) "...to injure an opponent is to injure yourself. to control aggression without inflicting injury is the art of peace..." Ueshiba Morihei (founder of Aikido). Aikido doesn't prioritise competition or effectiveness; instead, it emphasises responding to aggression with peacefulness, ultimately aiming for harmony. The lessons of Aikido through BUDO can serve as a source of inspiration for discovering alternative approaches to resolving global differences and conflict resolutions. How is this possible? In its most basic understanding and explanation, and through my interest and exploration with my mother who writes and reads mandarin, we observed that the kanji for "aikido" 合氣道 roughly translates - 合 (ai) means harmony. - 氣 (ki) refers to spirit or energy. - 道 (dō) translates to the way or path. So aikido is “… the way of harmonising/uniting forces..." In this context, the forces being united are not those of friends or acquaintances but rather adversaries who might potentially engage in physical combat. It became apparent that a substantial understanding of anatomy and physics is necessary to safely position oneself against an attacker and effectively employ a technique. Given that this knowledge is acquired through experience, it is logical for aikido practitioners to collaborate, sharing insights on applying techniques to diverse individuals... and this is where it begins, “…to transform martial arts from tools of war and pain, to instruments that promotes peace and cooperation..” #aikidoshudokan #aikidoshudokaninternational #joethambu #budo #aiki #aikido #martialarts

Exploring Aikido's Lessons for Business and Personal Growth Hello LinkedIn community, After a long absence, I am thrilled to reconnect with you all today. Inspired by Pieter Klaassen, I embarked on my Aikido journey one and a half years ago. (For insiders: recently, I achieved my 5th kyu at Aikido School Ando). While I am still at the early stages of my Aikido journey as a white belt Aikidoka, my extensive experience as a seasoned sourcing professional and lead negotiator has compelled me to delve into the application of Aikido principles in both our careers and personal lives. I warmly invite individuals with a martial arts background and anyone interested in this topic to contribute their insights and perspectives! Question: How can we effectively apply the principles of Aikido in complex (team) business negotiations to achieve the best possible outcomes? Throughout this discussion, I am curious to see how you touch upon various themes, including Harmony & Balance, Ki (Energy) & Redirecting Energy, Continuous Improvement & Presence. However, please feel free to choose any topic that resonates with you. Additionally, while my focus is on complex business negotiations, I welcome insights on other types of negotiations too. I am eagerly looking forward to your responses. The intriguing parallels between Aikido and business have captivated my interest, and I'm excited to read your valuable insights!

I enjoyed participating in the “Verbal Aikido” workshop this past weekend facilitated by Marie-Solange VOTTERO This is a technique to work with challenging or heated conversations where we feel attacked. Like Aikido, it’s not about using force or hurting someone, but it’s about using the other person’s energy to diffuse and harmonize the situation. Ai - harmony Ki - energy Do = the way Two quick responses that I learned which you can use to deflect incoming criticism/judgment: Don’t respond immediately. Pause and ask the question: “Is there anything else you want to add?” (Gives you time to get centered and allows the other person to finish blowing off steam) Don’t over-explain. We tend to jump into this but instead, ask clarifying questions to the other person: “What’s the most important part of this for you?” Really enjoyed this one - very practical! Thanks Marie! Take aways from first time practitionners. Indeed Verbal aikido is a practical tool. Not much theory but opportunities to train on real cases. This round “attacks” vary from “you should be more proactive”, to “you should do this”. What is your favourite attack ? At work or else where ? #conflictsresolution #assertivecommunication #practice
