Wrapping up a quarter of events in Asia! We started in 2023, and now, we are down to our last event in 2024. Last week, we hosted an exclusive series of events at the iconic Grand Hyatt Manila. It was a memorable occasion featuring two industry leaders who shared their insights on creating a "Personal Brand". We’ve talked about how building a personal brand is a great way to invest in yourself. Investing time and effort into developing your brand can help you stand out from the crowd and open up new growth opportunities. Whether you love your job or hate your job, you should always be working on your personal brand. It’s the only thing that stays with you everywhere you go. Your personal brand creates opportunities and future-proofs your income for years to come, and you won’t ever be out of a job with a strong personal brand!

🇨🇳Pinch Me Moments in Shanghai 🇨🇳 This week, I've been living a series of pinch-me moments. I'm writing from Shanghai, where our APAC workplace off-site has been excellent in grounding ourselves into the present and planning for the strategic needs of the business. Even though I consider myself well-traveled, this is my first time in China, and it has exceeded all my expectations. Firstly, the value of face-to-face interaction with my team cannot be overstated. We've immersed ourselves in global workplace objectives, tailoring them to fit our regional and personal priorities. This clarity and understanding, especially as we move into the new financial year and a new contract with JLL, it's been priceless. A massive thanks to Derrick and Terence for making this happen, and to Tina for hosting and enabling us to see and experience so much! Secondly, experiencing a place I've only read about has been profound. Growing up in the UK, my perception of China was heavily influenced by negative narratives. However, my time here has been the complete opposite of what I expected. Shanghai is a fascinating blend of the ultra-modern and the deeply historical, like something straight out of "The Jetsons" mixed with stunning ancient architecture, and the care and respect for balance both personally and spiritually. The culture, history, and people of China have taught me so much, challenging my biases and enriching my understanding. It's been a privilege to learn and immerse myself in this beautiful culture and have some of the experiences this country offers. This journey has reminded me of the importance of staying open to the unexpected and embracing the unfamiliar. Whether through connecting with colleagues or exploring a new city, these moments of discovery are what make life truly magical. Here's to more pinch-me moments and the serendipity they bring! These experiences have reinforced the value of purpose and connection in both my professional and personal life. It's a reminder that stepping out of our comfort zones can lead to the most rewarding insights and growth. I was fortunate enough to celebrate New Year in Singapore – what an incredible place.  My daughter had previously worked there and returning for New Year together, was a post COVID plan which we were finally able to achieve.  We enjoyed many aspects of an engaging nation, with ease of access to transport, walking routes and a real sense of East meets West in a blend of culture and history.  Visiting the National Gallery was a highlight.  I am not usually an ‘art person’ – I know what I like, but the Liu Kuo-Sung exhibition on Experimentation as Method, triggered hugely positive engagement and discussion in relation to challenge and the critical role that innovation contributes.  His narrative was fascinating and I could not help but draw parallels in achieving excellence in HR’s role to encourage interaction, supporting mutual growth and maturity;  naturally restraining each other as a new vitality is created through collaboration.  Over a 70 year+ career, Liu Kuo-Sung has said that he continues to progress his thinking and now feels that art or culture, should be borderless and global, not nationalist.  He was asked the question:  where do you find inspiration to express yourself? ….a great question. Why am I in Amsterdam? Well, the main reason is Clémence 😉 But there are other important reasons. People close to me know that I always wanted to go abroad. My core drive is to seek deep truths. Freeing myself from being tied to one culture was a privilege I have aimed for since I was a child. And for me it paid off: It’s scary how much my behavior is influenced by the culture I am in. This also plays into Morningscore. I want it to be an international company. Having employees from different cultures (which we already do) but also being in more physical locations is a forcing mechanism to become international. And finally, there is also a bigger business plan with all of this. Amsterdam is the international business hub of Europe. Will write more about the plan in my next post ;)

Safety and Security. What many from foreign countries may not be aware of and what many Singaporeans may have taken granted for.

One of my main motivations for participating in local events in any country I work in is to gain a deeper understanding of the local business environment and mindset. Through my experiences at various events in each country, I’ve learned that there is no one-size-fits-all solution. While intellectual intelligence is important, I’ve found that in many parts of Asia, business is often conducted through personal relationships. This has been a core takeaway for me after joining any local event. I always learn from local partners like Pak Hermawan. Understanding local cultures and practices may seem straightforward, but acting upon that understanding and genuinely empathizing with it is always a challenge, no matter the country. Do you have something unique about you that makes you stand out from the crowd? When I first arrived in Finland, I noticed that I would attract a few stares, although not as much as here, where nobody even seems to look. However, not many were comfortable. I often felt awkward, more so than people made me feel. But, as time went on, I realized that embracing what makes me different is key to building self-confidence. I began to feel more confident because I was different. I'm always the one who stands out at events, meetings, and wherever I go because of the diversity I bring. And you know what? Being different allows you to stand out and shine. I remember someone on my LinkedIn posted a picture of an event where I was also present, and I instantly spotted myself in the crowd as the only one with head scarf. It made me realize that being unique isn't a weakness; it's my strength. Moreover, I've noticed that Finland's work environments are increasingly embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion. It's heartening to see companies here welcoming individuals from various backgrounds and cultures, making an inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels valued and respected. Just like the company I work in, Crowd For Impact, we are three different nationalities, races, and backgrounds. We embrace the diversity of perspectives and cultures, and it enriches our work environment in profound ways. So, if you ever feel like you don't quite fit in, remember that your uniqueness is what makes you special. Embrace it, and watch yourself glow. 😎
