Major health factors, including genes, diet, lifestyle, and environment, exert their influence by subtly changing our biochemical composition, known as the metabolome. Therefore, measuring changes in the metabolome is crucial to our understanding of health and the factors that influence health. While biochemistry’s fundamental utility has been accepted for over a century, accurately measuring the metabolome has been difficult due to the quantity and diversity of biochemicals in any given biological system. Anti-aging power of Sanghuangporus sanghuang mushroom revealed A recent study has shed light on the potential anti-aging activity of Sanghuangporus sanghuang extract (SSE), a type of mushroom traditionally used in Chinese medicine. The researchers observed that administration of SSE to laboratory nematodes significantly increased their lifespan, with a maximum increase of 26.41%. The study also showed that SSE treatment promoted stress resistance, reduced reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, and improved the nematodes' body condition. These findings suggest that SSE may act as a potent anti-aging agent by modulating various biological processes related to longevity. The mechanism underlying the anti-aging effects of SSE appears to involve the upregulation of mRNA levels of genes involved in longevity, resistance to oxidative stress, and the insulin/IGF-1 signaling pathway. The discovery of the anti-aging potential of ESS opens new avenues for the development of natural therapies to combat the aging process. Further research is needed to elucidate the detailed molecular mechanisms of ESS action and to explore its potential application in human anti-aging interventions. Reference: Dong Z, et al. ☑️ *READ ABSTRACT BELOW:* Keywords: Bisphenol A; Endocrine disrupting chemicals; Pollutant; carcinogen; oxidative stress; toxicity Bisphenol A (BPA) is a ubiquitous industrial chemical used in the production of polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins, found in numerous consumer products. Despite its widespread use, its potential adverse health effects have raised significant concerns. This review explores the molecular mechanisms and evidence-based literature underlying BPA-induced toxicities and its implications for human health. BPA is an endocrine-disrupting chemical (EDC) which exhibits carcinogenic properties by influencing various receptors, such as ER, AhR, PPARs, LXRs, and RARs. It induces oxidative stress and contributes to cellular dysfunction, inflammation, and DNA damage, ultimately leading to various toxicities including but not limited to reproductive, cardiotoxicity, neurotoxicity, and endocrine toxicity. Moreover, BPA can modify DNA methylation patterns, histone modifications, and non-coding RNA expression, leading to epigenetic changes and contribute to carcinogenesis. Overall, understanding molecular mechanisms of BPA-induced toxicity is crucial for developing effective strategies and policies to mitigate its adverse effects on human health.
